Players who venture into this shrouded area should keep their wits about them, as they can very easily become lost or overwhelmed by powerful enemies. Still, it can prove to be a rather rewarding experience for those who are courageous enough to brave its dangers.
Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Misty Marshes Combine Elements of Zelda and Dark Souls
The Misty Marshes Are Similar to Breath of the Wild’s Lost Woods
The standout feature ofDragon’s Dogma 2’s Misty Marshes is that they are very easy to get lost in. Firstly, on the map, the Misty Marshes are enshrouded by a dense fog, so it’s impossible to discern where the paths are. The only hope for anyone who gets lost in the Misty Marshes is to face their character in a certain direction and move as straight as possible until they escape. This is where this particular region conjures elements ofThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild— particularly, itsLost Woods.
While the Lost Woods is a recurring location that has been used intheLegend of Zeldaseriesfor some time now,Breath of the Wildintroduced a version of the region that used lit torches as a core mechanic for escape. The Lost Woods are named on account of it being easy to get lost in them, but inBreath of the Wild, players simply needed to follow a series of lit torches to make their way through the woods safely. The same rule applies inDragon’s Dogma 2’s Misty Marshes, which uses lit braziers to guide players from one end of the region to the next.
The Misty Marshes Are Eternally Dark and Difficult
Aside from the Misty Marshes being shrouded in dense fog and therefore difficult to navigate, they are also extremely challenging. It is eternally dark in the Misty Marshes, and, as the franchise has consistently proven,Dragon’s Dogma’s darkness is full of danger. In the dark, players will not only encounter more powerful versions of monsters they would normally find during the day, but creatures and spirits who are unique to the night also make an appearance. The Misty Marshes, in particular, are densely populated with Skeletons and Undead, which serve as an excellent way to obtain plenty ofPutrid Gold Toothitems.
ItsDark Soulsinspiration comes into play with its immense difficulty, especially for under-leveled players. There is also only one campsite in the entire region and it just so happens to be completely overrun byDragon’s Dogma 2’s Undead and Skeletons. Furthermore, the star foe of the Misty Marshes is a powerful Wight near its northern edge. If players can manage to defeat it, they can obtain Craos Tine, a powerful flame-enchanted archistaff that makes the whole trip worthwhile. In addition to Craos Tine, there are plenty of chests to be found, with valuable gear pieces and other items as well. If nothing else, it serves as a way to farm XP, since the various creatures that inhabit the Misty Marshes provide decent amounts of it.
