Alan Wake Remasteredhas released today for Nintendo Switch. Earlier this year Remedy revealed for the game’s 12th anniversary that 2021’sAlan Wake Remasteredwould be making its way to Nintendo Switch, and out of the blue the studio revealed that today is the day that Nintendo fans can get their hands on this beloved cult classic action horror game.
Alan Wakefirst released in May 2010 for Xbox 360 and was the first new IP from Remedy Entertainment of that console generation following the major success of itsMax Payneseries, which was published by Rockstar Games. After a troubled development which saw the game downsizing from an open-world game to a linear narrative-driven action title,Alan Wakereleased to critical praise, however, the game’s release wasquickly overshadowed by Rockstar’sRed Dead Redemption, which released the same week. This causedAlan Waketo under-perform financially.

Over a decade later,Alan Wakeis back and the series is stronger than ever, making its formal debut on Nintendo platforms today. The game is available now on the Nintendo eShop as a native Switch download title (not a cloud title like Remedy’sControlon Switch). The game is priced at $29.99, but a launch discount of 20% brings the game temporarily down to $23.99.
Given that this is based on the remaster of the Xbox 360 version that released last year,Alan Wakecomes to Switch with all the bells and whistles implemented in the most recent iteration. This includes newly recorded director’s commentary from Remedy Entertainment head Sam Lake alongside the original director’s commentary from 2010, all of the post-launch story DLC, and the newly updated andenhanced visuals including a completely reworked model for Alanhimself. This does make the game a hefty download, however, coming in at 12.9GB.
Fans looking for a thrilling action horror title on the go should definitely checkAlan Wake Remasteredout, especially fans of mystery stories like David Lynch and Mark Frost’sTwin Peaksor the works of Stephen King. Remedy has not announced plans to bring the upcoming sequelAlan Wake 2orthe severely underrated spin-offAlan Wake’s American Nightmareto Nintendo Switch, but support for this remaster might influence the studio’s decisions if it is a financial success. Either way,Alan Wakejoins the Nintendo Switch’s impressive roster of handheld horror adventures.
Alan Wake Remasteredis available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
