DespiteAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsonly releasing a little over a month ago, it seems many have already found their way to limitless riches in the next entry of Nintendo’s blockbuster franchise. Exploiting turnip sales, time-traveling to replenish lucrative resources, and searching forTarantula islandsare all methods currently being used by players to generate heaps of spare cash, however, it seems the most recent update has managed to crack down on another incredibly profitable way to make some big bucks.
Following the recent Earth Day update, it seemsAnimal Crossing: New Horizonswill be changing how much interest players generate from saving bells at the local bank, seemingly in an effort to stop users from exploiting the feature. Strangely, the announcement of this change was actually made in-game, with Tom Nook breaking the news to players that their stored bells won’t be raking in as much cash as before.

When logging in to their island now that theEarth Day updatehas officially been put into practice, the player will be greeted with a letter from the Bank of Nook which informs them that interest on bells has declined. Alongside this message, the player will also recieve a bell-shaped rug as an apology for the change to the service, making for a brand new decoration that players are sure to love. While it’s far from equal in worth to the amount of cash players could farm from stored bell interest, it’s a fun little addition to players' houses all the same.
As for why Nintendo has opted to nerf the interest generated from stored bells, it seems to be in an effort to help keep the game’s economy in balance. Right now, players are seemingly making thousands of bells through a number of incredibly easy methods, whether that be traveling to other islands in search of highturnip pricesor time traveling to generate an infinite stream of cash. Making sure players aren’t also generating thousands in interest might be Nintendo’s way of beginning to balance out how easy it farm millions of bells.
Regardless, the update also brings a number of new features alongside its nerf of stored bell interest, including additional vendors, fauna, and evenmajor additions to the game’s museum. It seems as though major new elements ofNew Horizonsworld will be coming frequently, and if the Earth Day update is anything to go by, they’re going to be incredibly drastic.
