Summary
Unsurprisingly, Nintendo’s life simulationAnimal Crossing: New Horizonswas incredibly well-received when it was released in 2020. The game has seen various patches and updates over the years, though in recent monthsnewAnimal Crossingcontenthas been quite scarce. Regardless,Animal Crossing: New Horizonsdid well to introduce its community to new NPCs, alongside several familiar faces.
It’s clear that there are many beloved personalities inAnimal Crossing: New Horizonswhich can make it hard to discern who is “better.” On the other hand, there are some that seem like obvious choices for high-tier ranks due to recognizability after all.

S-Tier
Arguably, more characters could belong in the S-Tier list. Regardless, there’s no doubt that these five furry friends are deserving of the highest category. For instance, Isabelle has been a staple of the franchise since 2013. Additionally, even thoughFlick only made his debut inNew Horizons, he quickly became one of the community’s favorite NPCs to interact with due to his unique perspective on life and passion for bugs. Celeste, Kicks, and Brewster are each similarly charming as they also have displayed adorable levels of enthusiasm for their projects.
A-Tier
Finding a spot in A-Tier is still a very impressive feat, and as such every one of them should be proud of it. Each of theseAnimal CrossingNPCsis an iconic individual of the series that is deserving of recognition. Wisp’s adventures began inCity Folk, but he’s made multiple appearances since then inNew LeafandNew Horizons. His chubby spherical appearance and comical fear of ghosts are both more than enough reasons to love him. K.K. Slider and Tom Nook are also solidly A-Tier personas due to their recognizability, while Daisy Mae and Mabel simply exude wholesomeness wherever they go.
B-Tier
Though these six NPCs may be considered A-Tier for some people, there are those in the community who also find it bothersome to speak with them. Skipping dialogue from Label, Blathers, Timmy, or Tommy is more common than some may want to admit. The wedding event fromReese and Cyrus inNew Horizonswas a massive hit when it came out, but the hype around the married alpacas has since diminished.
C-Tier
It’s difficult to defend the characters in C-Tier due to their rather stingy, or deceptive, personalities and bizarre appearances. Redd is infamous for scamming players with illegitimate art whereasGulliver will somehow lose his communicator partsmore times than should be humanely possible. Harvey and Leif may be the least deserving of C-Tier, but unfortunately, they just don’t play a large enough part inNew Horizonsto be a rank higher.
D-Tier
The lowest tier only yields three characters, but each of them has a solid reason to be here. Gullivarrr may just beGulliver dressed in pirate attire, but regardless he’s far more obnoxious than his original counterpart due to his seafaring vocabulary. Franklin is the head chef on Turkey Day, and it’s rather offsetting that he’s willing to serve animal meat to the villagers. Finally, while Luna can assist with Dream Codes, she has a strangely human figure for a tapir.
