If there’s one thing theAssassin’s Creedhas done spectacularly well, it has been to integrate its protagonists within their time frames. Every costume worn by these characters has been appropriate for their timelines, and most have been a success.

However, there were still those that failed to paint the protagonists in the right light, either by making them seem lame or missing the point of their characterization. In this list, we’ve considered any outfit and get-up seen in the series as a “costume,” which means any clothing qualifies, whether it was part of the story or just an additional costume within the game.

10Worst: Desmond Miles Animus Costume

Before he’d slipped into a coma and woken up in the animus, Desmond had worn a pretty cool variant of the assassin costume. That one had him sport a hoodie in the shape of the assassin insignia, only forAssassin’s Creed:Revelationsto hand him this get-up.

It had the effect of shredding away anything that made Desmond look like an assassin in the first place, as this black hoodie looked far too casual. The funnier thing is that he was supposed to come upon the realization that he was inherently an assassin, yet this casual look seems more like the outfit of somebody playing the game than a character starring in it.

9Best: Connor Kenway Assassin Form

We saw Connor in his tribal costume during the first quarter of the game where he became playable, but unfortunately, he just looked savage rather than traditional. This is why this costume made him look the part of cool assassin.

The tomahawk was a nice touch, as its assassin insignia brought the look together. The contrast between blue and white, plus the distressed appearance of the costume really signified how this was an assassin who was in touch with his roots in the Western frontier.

8Worst: Young Ezio Auditore

If the game wanted Ezio to look like a dopey teen who thought very highly of himself, then they achieved that in spades with how the young Ezio looked. Other than that, nobody would consider him as anything but a punk.

Maybe it’s the color of the vest or the not-so-becoming pattern tailored onto it, but either way, the appearance just comes across as dull more than anything else. Had Ezio donned this look as an assassin, then he would’ve been the lamest one in the series yet.

7Best: Master Assassin Ezio

Now this is a look that is guaranteed to be a big hit. Even if you were to see a guy step out with this costume in present day, you’d take him seriously. This was the get-up that Ezio worefor most of his kills, and he has the look of a silent assassin down pat.

It’s mainly the hood that gives off the finishing touches, as it’s low enough to cast a foreboding shadow on our protagonist. The contrasting colors here are dark to the point where we know Ezio’s someone you’re meant to take seriously.

6Worst: Kassandra ,Face Painted Hunter

We’re not too keen on the face paint in general, but it didn’t look as awful when Kassandra wore it on armor. However, when she was in her hunter garb, the whole thing made her look like a joke. The main guilty party here is the outfit’s coloring scheme, which is something no hunter would be taken seriously in.

Had the top been at least a little distressed then Kassandra would’ve seemed like a true hunter. Instead, the face paint and tame dress look demure and non-threatening, something that Kassandra really wasn’t.

5Best: Altair Base-Level Costume

Is he a monk? Is he a killer? Is he supposed tobe an enlightened blend between the two? All these questions and more pop up when you take a peek at Altair’s base-level garb, an appearance mainly bolstered due to his youth.

This is a look that allowed him to slip away without anybody noticing, and also enabled him to blend into places by posing as a nobleman. The sheer white cloak was bettered by the presence of red near the navel, making Altair look like a man on a mission.

4Worst: Arno Dorian Assassin Form

The problem here is that there is just too much happening with Arno’s appearance for you to focus on one thing in particular. What goodwill came from him wearing that blue hooded jacket was taken away by everything else going on in the inner layers.

The ascot tie had no business being there, which was something that would’ve looked okay had he not been wearing that jacket. Then there was the fact that he had a buttoned shirt over what seemed to be another jacket within, so all of it just seems ludicrous.

3Best: Evie Frye Red Gown

Out of the two Frye siblings it was Evie who stole our hearts. She was a better assassin than her brother, and the main reason was that due to the fact thatshe could do stealth so much better than him. Her stealth also took the form of making herself appear as a lady.

Arno Dorian Cropped.v1

Here, when she was meant to be infiltrating in the game’s climactic moments, Evie put on this red gown, which has been met with unanimous approval from fans. It highlighted how classy of an assassin she was, as none of her badass appeal was taken away.

2Worst: Connor Kenway Uniform

There are some people who just aren’t meant to conform to the styles of society, and Connor was one such person. He looked cool when he was a class apart form the others, but blending in made him look like another person entirely.

When he donned a uniform to infiltrate the enemy ranks, he also lost his coolness factor. Since this didn’t have a distinct look, Connor couldn’t be seen in the assassin light that we like him in. In its place, he just comes across as one of the many mooks in the game.

1Best: Pirate Edward Kenway

If you really look at it, this costume is very similar to that which Haytham’s grandson wore many decades later. However, it’s how well he managed to make it look pirate themed that we see it as a win.

Of course, that mainly comes down to the twin Flintlock pistols he had strapped to his chest, as this screamed out that he was a guy who had no problems going guns blazing. Along with that, the red cloth wrapped around with places to sheathe his swords was a great touch, convincing us he was a man who improvised his fights just like a true pirate would.
