Assassin’s Creed Valhallawill put players in the shoes of Norse Vikings in their quest to seek better land.Valhallawill attempt to capture the unseen side of Viking culture and daily life as Eivor and the Vikings build settlements and develop their home in England. InValhalla, settlements provide relieffrom battle and the opportunity to explore peaceful Viking life, including seeking affection from the many cats around.
Settlements inAssassin’s Creed Valhallawill evolve as Eivor explores England and recruits members. The Settlement also provides ways to discuss missions with the war chief, participate in Viking rap battles, and playful interactions with cats. When players are not hurling axes and bashing enemies with shields, players can take time to relax with multiple interaction options with cats.

A video released by the officialAssassin’s CreedTwitter account has confirmed not only that cats can be pet inValhalla, but that Eivor can pick up the large cat and pet it before it pounces out of Eivor’s arms. The caption of the video, “It may be the Dark Ages, but there’s always a little light,” perfectly captures the pure joy of petting cats even though the game largely revolves around a brutal war.
Valhallais adding to theAssassin’s Creedgames that allow players to pet animals.BothOdysseyandOriginshave features that allow players to pet animals, butOdysseyonly allows players to pet animals they have tamed. Although petting an animal is only a tiny interaction, it provides a wholesome, innocent few seconds away from violence. Players may find themselves spending more time with the adorable cats than pillaging English villages.
The short clip of Eivor holding and petting a cat may reveal even more than the ability to pet cats. Although she is holding one cat, two more are walking around her. This could possibly point to either the ability to tame cats, much likeOdyssey, or having more naturally join the settlement as it grows. Since the other cats are drawn to Eivor, this could also point to cats having dynamic relationships with Eivor that can be increased by petting, but it has been confirmed that cats can be taken on raids and have unique quests attached to them.
Assassin’s Creedis not the only game to feature petting animals. Many other games have benefitted from cute interactions like petting or giving affection. For example,Ghost of Tsushimaallows players to pet foxes. The interaction has become so popular that only 10 days after its release,Ghost of Tsushimaplayers have pet over 8 million foxes. WhenAssassin’s Creed: Valhallareleases, players may try to outdoGhost of Tsushimaby petting cats millions of times.
Assassin’s Creed Valhallalaunches on November 17 for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions to follow.
