Avengers: The Kang Dynastywas presumably going to focus on Majors as Kang, the MCU’s overarching villain for the Multiverse saga. Various Kang variants were introduced inLokiandAnt-Man 3, each played by Majors. However,Marvel Studios fired Majors as Kangafter the actor was found guilty of two misdemeanor counts of assault and harassment. While Kang is reportedly being recast,Avengers 5is said to be receiving a new title and shifting its focus from the multiverse villain.
The Cosmic Circus’Alex Perezseemingly implied thatAvengers 5may now adapt theAvengers vs. X-Menstorylinefrom Marvel Comics. In response to a Twitter user who expressed it was too early to adaptAvengers vs. X-Men, Perez replied, “I know it feels that way now…wait until next week.” With San Diego Comic-Con scheduled for July 25 to July 28, fans believe Perez indicated that Marvel Studios will announce anAvengers vs. X-Menproject during the company’s Hall H presentation. Adding fuel to the fire, Perez responded to another Twitter user’s pleas for anAvengers vs. X-Men movie by writing, “He’s got the right idea.”
Avengers vs. X-Menwas a 12-issue event focused on a conflict between Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and the mutant team. When the Phoenix Force returns and is believed to seek Hope Summers as its new host, the X-Men want to protect her and prepare to be the mutant savior. However, the Avengers view the Phoenix Force as a threat to Earth and want Hope Summers handed over to protect the world from potential devastation, resulting in a war between both factions.
Of course, Marvel Studios has taken creative liberties when adapting comic book storylines. So, the company may offer a unique take on the concept of Avengers fighting X-Men. In a feature forThe Cosmic Circuson Marvel Studios, Perez speculated that Marvel Studios could provide a “multiverse” spin on theAvengers vs. X-Menstoryline. The piece noted that the foundation was laid in thepost-credits sequence ofThe Marvels, where Monica Rambeau awakened in an alternate universe to be greeted by Kelsey Grammer’s Beast. This is purely speculative, and the possibility of an Avengers vs. X-Men project has not been confirmed by official sources.
After the company’s Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, fans will likely better understand Marvel Studios’Avengers 5plans.
