Summary
While other battle royale titles such asPlayerUnknown’s BattlegroundsandPUBG Mobileare hailed as genre-starters, some devs and publishers like Garena want a piece of that battle royale pie. As a result, whileGarena Free Firetakes familiar elements from the games that started it all, it’s still quite different from what fans could expect from games likePUBGandPUBG Mobile. More specifically, it’s quite interesting howFree Fireactually features pets.
Unlike other battle royales,Free Fireallows players to have pets accompany them during combat - providing a much-needed visual aid to make avatars look much prettier when engaging in firefights. However, some pets in the game are just a cut better than the rest.

Updated June 24, 2025 by Rhenn Taguiam:With the ESL Snapdragon Pro Series Season 5: Brazil Open in October 2024 gearing up to be Garena Free Fire’s biggest tournament of the year, fans of the battle royale might want to stay tuned to pro teams who will be competing for its coveted prize pool. However, fans who want to eventually get into Free Fire’s pro scene might want to practice not just with their teammates but also create builds that revolve around a character and Pets who can improve their performance.
Thankfully, the game has quite a lot of Pets with benefits that can alter a player’s experience - some of which include a Pet that gives mid-air advantage, a companion that modifies the player’s Gloo Wall, one with nifty detection skills, and another that gives players a support buff.

14Falco (Skyline Spree)
Avoid Being Targeted In The Skies
As with other battle royale titles,Garena Free Firewould have players enter the battlefield via dropship and head to a destination. However, players who manage to travel the skies will find themselves parachuting to open land - with their outlines becoming rather obvious to nearby enemies who look hard enough, leaving them open for interception. However, using Falco as a pet can give players an advantage over their aerial defenses.
When players activateSkyline Spree, Falco assists players during their descent from the skies. Whereas players can ordinarily target and lock onto other foes within their line of sight even when the latter is on the air, Skyline Spree ensures this doesn’t happen to the player. Such a bonus can be a game-changer for players who plan on returning to the battlefield after being revived - an action that can be noticed by other enemies who pay attention. Not being able to target the players in the air can give them time to reposition when they land, evading foes out looking for a quick kill.

13Kactus (Self-Sufficient)
Standing Still Now Has Perks
Unlikeother games,Free Firehas a unique resource called EP that can be used in a wide variety of applications. Aside from being the go-to resource of most hero skills, the battle royale uses EP as an HP source. Basically, when players lose HP, the game heals them at a rate of 1HP per second while using up their EP reserves. Normally, only a Bonfire or Mushrooms can restore player EP without character abilities. However, thanks to Kactus, even standing still can regenerate the resource.
Where Kactus shines is its ability,Self-Sufficient. This is only triggered when its owner stands still and doesn’t move for six seconds, after which they start restoring 10 EP per second. This bonus stops as soon as players move or jump. Despite this rather simplified nature, the EP generation on rest incentivizes much more timed plays - especially for players or teams whose strategies focus on jumping from one safe haven to another.

12Mr. Waggor (Smooth Gloo Wall)
Get A Constant Supply Of Gloo Walls
One important gimmick inFree Firewould be the presence of Gloo Walls - essentially non-damaging grenades that form up to three covers that they can use for protection. Thisbattle royale gimmickcan give players an opening to recover and reload, or even escape to vital points of the map without suffering damage from crossfires. However, with Mr. Waggor, players can get a constant supply of this resource with an additional effect.
Befitting the appearance of Mr. Waggor as a penguin is its ability,Smooth Gloo Wall. This ability only triggers when players have less than one (or two, depending on the skill level) Gloo Wall Grenades on their person. When activated, Mr. Waggor can produce a Gloo Wall Grenade for players once every 120 seconds (or 100, depending on the skill level). This Gloo Wall Grenade spare can be helpful in the latter stages of the match where repositioning is vital to get the upper hand - allowing them to eliminate enemies quickly for a speedy victory.

11Arvon (Dinoculars)
See Enemy Locations
Unlike other shooting games where enemies are normally marked by color outlines, the vast environments of battle royales mean players also have to be laser-focused in spotting enemies moving across the terrain. This is one quality that makes battle royales rather difficult to appreciate, as a speck from afar could actually be an enemy pointing a sniper toward players. With Arvon,Free Fireplayers won’t have a lot of difficulties recognizing which is what.
Fans who use Arvon for the first time might recognize itsDinocularsas having a similar ability to that of Bloodhound fromApex Legends. When used, Dinoculars can detect opponents from a minimum distance of 50 meters for up to three seconds. Compared to Bloodhound, Arvon can only cast this ability once per match at the first skill level, up to three times per match at the third skill level. Despite this limitation, Dinoculars can become a game-changer in intense parts of the match - especially near the end where positioning is crucial to catch the enemy unawares.

10Beaston (Helping Hands)
Expand Throwable Range
Players with an aggressive battle royale playstyle know thatthrowables can have a lot of impact in combat, be it through smoke grenades, flashbangs, or even grenades. However, throwables won’t be as useful if their targets are a bit too far from where they are. Thankfully,Beastoncan help players with this predicament.
With thisHelping Handsability, the pet can extend the throwing range of players whenever they use throwables. This first starts at a 10-percent boost and provides bigger boosts in the long term. Such a boost is integral for aggressive players who want to catch enemies off-guard at a distance, beneficial for ambushers and snipers.

9Yeti (Frost Fortress)
Enhance One’s Defenses
Combat in any battle royale game is annoying not just because of pesky opponents and their weapons, but rather those that catch players bysurprise with explosives. One properly-timed grenade throw can kill players without giving them a chance to retaliate. Thankfully,Yetican help players circumvent this threat.
ThroughFrost Fortress, those who bring Yeti into combat can benefit from a reduction of explosive damage. This begins at a 15-percent reduction every 150 seconds, while at max level can confer a 30-percent damage reduction every 90 seconds. This can become a great deal for players aggressive enough to constantly seek firefights.

8Ottero (Double Blubber)
Get More Out Of Healing
Dying in combat means losing in a battle royale, which means players always need a stock of recovery items to ensure their HP stays in tip-top shape. Thankfully,Free Firealso has an EP resource that automatically gets consumed to replenish lost HP, provided players earn them constantly via campfires, mushrooms, and character skills. Thanks toOtteroand his Double Blubber ability, players get more bang for their buck.
WithDouble Blubber, the otter-inspired pet will give players a bonus EP whenever they use a recovery item. This bonus EP starts at 35% of HP healed and grows to up to 65% as they level up. This canbecome a life-saverin longer excursions, as players need all the EP they can have for emergency heals.

7Spirit Fox (Well-Fed)
Get A Straightforward Healing Bonus
Players who want a more straightforward healing bonus can rely onSpirit Foxto get more of their money’s worth whenever they get recovery items. That way, players can outlast more foes in combat and not always rely on EP for their emergency heals.
Thanks toWell-Fed, Spirit Fox can start giving 4HP to as much as 10HP at max level whenever players use a recovery item. This can become extremely convenient incritical close-range incursions, as a player’s usage of recovery items like medkits can spell the difference between a winner and a loser in a fierce conflict.

6Agent Hop (Bouncing Bonus)
Get More Out Of The Zone
Playerscan’t stay in a single area for too longin a battle royale, especially since the safe zone shrinks the longer they stay in the battle. As such, players will inevitably face other characters or risk getting damaged if they remain in the zone. WithAgent Hop, players get more incentive to explore within the zone and prepare for enemy encounters.
Thanks to theirBouncing Bonus, players can get as much as 50EP whenever the zone shrinks, giving them an EP-regeneration ability which can be nifty for emergency heals. Players who want a more aggressive approach can rely on Agent Hop for the constant EP bonus and avoid having to look for mushrooms, which can take time away from hunting down other players.
5Poring (Stitch And Patch)
Boost Defenses The Longer One Stays In Battle
Armor and a helmet are the two things protecting players from being killed too easily by opponents, and sometimes their defensive bonuses get easily overwhelmed to the point that they have to be regularly replaced. Thanks to thePoringand its ability, this might not necessarily be the case.
With theStitch And Patchability, a Poring can give a 1 point boost to the durability of worn helmets and armor every three seconds. At its initial level, the ability protects Level 1 armor and helmets from damage, but at maximum rank can protect even Level 3 armor and helmets. This isextremely useful for players reliant on careful plays, where being caught off-guard in combat means dying too quickly.
