Summary

Each of the six playable characters inWayfinderall rely on their abilities to make them a useful addition to a team, though admittedly, most of these abilities prioritize enhancing an individual’s damage output and speed rather than buffing allies. Wingrave is the exception though, with the iron-clad man of honor being entirely dedicated to protecting his allies during tough encounters and ensuring they all make it back in one piece after a grueling encounter.

This isn’t to say that he doesn’t have any offensive capabilities, because he certainly does, especially thanks to his Bastion signature weapon which can deal some devastating damage, but he is first and foremost a tank who excels at soaking up damage and healing his allies. Still, he does have a few abilities that can make a much bigger impact than others.

5Healing Pulse

Since Healing Pulse is a passive ability that doesn’t need to be manually activated, it can be very easy to forget about it entirely, even though it can be very useful when Wingrave is low on health and needsa quick way to heal. The truth is, not only are these instances extremely rare because of how incredibly high Wingrave’s defense is, but since he isn’t usually the one finishing off enemies and is more focused on keeping an eye on the team’s health, it doesn’t really fit into his playstyle all that much.

It would have also been a lot more useful if it was capable of healing multiple allies rather than just one which does also limit the ability’s usefulness even more. However, if Wingrave is surrounded and has used up all his abilities, hacking and slashing to gain some health is still a great way to get out of a tight spot.

4Judgment

Judgment can be an incredibly useful ability when playing aspart of a well-coordinated teamwho are aware of how to make full use of it, but when playing with random strangers, it can sometimes fall flat in its overall effectiveness. Additionally, activating it will leave Wingrave vulnerable for a few moments, which is a big deal in a game likeWayfinderwhere enemies tend to be incredibly quick and agile.

This is really where the drawbacks of this ability end as Judgment can be life-saving when used correctly, especially considering it will heal anyone who attacks a target as opposed to a single ally. Rather than picking a single enemy to mark, Judgment works as an AOE attack, which will work on any enemies in a small radius, making it easy to pull off, and especially good for enemies with larger health pools like Enforcers who the team can all attack together to recover some of their own HP.

3Radiant Pulse

Another ability that can be quite situational, but incredibly effective when allies know how to respond to it, Radiant Pulse can be an absolute lifesaver when facing hordes who love throwing projectiles from afar, or single targets like the Deadeye Shrike who can deal a good amount of damage with a single shot. The added defense also comes in extremely handy for Wayfinders who love getting up close and personal with their enemies such as Senja and Kyros, allowing them to run into combat without needing to worry as much about taking life-threatening damage.

It also needs to be said that the shield Wingrave deploys when using Radiant Pulse is massive, easily being able to protect two to three team members at a time, but it also moves along with Wingrave rather than remaining rooted in one place, which can be used tosafely lead a team into combat. This also means it isn’t that risky to throw out and will prove to be useful in most situations, so long as the team knows that they should stand behind Wingrave when he’s about to use it.

2Righteous Strike

While Wingrave’s kit might be primarily tailored towards buffing the team and keeping them alive, Righteous Strike manages to still do this while also granting him some offensive potential, which has a giant AOE and is also capable of knocking down weaker enemies, leaving them wide open foran ally attack.

There aren’t many occasions where Righteous Strike won’t be useful, but to get the most out of it, players should attempt to get accustomed to the range of the attack to catch as many enemies in the swing as possible. The more enemies caught in the strike, the more health will be restored to those standing around Wingrave, so when it comes to crowd control, this is one of the most effective abilities in the game.

1Divine Aegis

Divine Aegis is not only Wingrave’s best ability, but it’s one of the most important abilities in the entire game when it comes tohunting down beasts, crawling through dungeons, and taking down bosses since it can all but guarantee that a team survives any encounters thrown their way. The radius of the barrier is extremely big and will easily cover the entire team, even if each Wayfinder is spread out from one another, which makes Wingrave’s job much easier as he can simply throw it down without having to worry about placement too much.

It also heals incredibly fast, with it being capable of restoring all teammates to full health in a matter of seconds, but it’s the invulnerability it offers that makes it so special. In an instant, Wingrave can completely turn the tide of a fight, protecting all of his allies for a few precious seconds, which can be a lifesaver when facing an arduous boss. The slow cooldown does still mean players need to be cautious about using it too liberally, but as long as they get used to deploying it in situations that are getting a little too risky, they will be able to save their entire team from meeting an unfortunate demise mid-battle.
