Experiment 101’sBiomutantdid not see the most positive reception when it launched last year. Reviewers praised the game’s graphics and world design but found the gameplay underwhelming and full of missed potential.
However,Biomutantis not without its good points, and it may be able to get a little better on next-gen consoles. If fans can trust a recent leak, the action RPG is finally about to get its next-gen upgrade for PlayStation 5.

Reddit user the_andshrew discovered the leak and shared it on the GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit. According to the Reddit user, developers have already published the PlayStation 5 version ofBiomutanton the PlayStation Network backend. Developer THQ Nordic announced last year thatBiomutantis coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, but there have not been any updates since the game’s underwhelming launch. If the leak is accurate, this is the first evidence that the next-gen upgrades are still on the table.
Of course, gamers should be careful before jumping to believe every reported leak. The post provides a title and concept ID number and a link to the game’s key art. However, nothing about the image specifically ties it to the PlayStation 5 update. So while the leak may be accurate, fans should still balance their excitement with an appropriate amount of caution.
That said, there doesn’t seem to be as manyBiomutantfans as the developers might have hoped. For those unfamiliar with the game,Biomutantis a post-apocalyptic action RPG. Players take the role of a mutant warrior in a world inhabited by sentient mutated animals. It features a branching storyline alongside third-person combat and action platforming. However, many players criticized the combat as “floaty” or “weightless” and felt it didn’t live up to the standard set by other open-world games likeBreath of the WildandShadow of Mordor.
The top comment under the Reddit post is someone asking, “Wasn’t this game a massive disappointment?” with many people responding that it was. And that is not an unpopular opinion, with some labelingBiomutantone of the most disappointing games of 2021. In fairness, many commenters criticizedBiomutantfor being overhyped rather than poor quality. However, others were much more negative, with one person going as far as saying thatBiomutantwas the only game they regretted buying.
Still, there’s no reason to assume that Experiment 101 canceled its next-gen plans, especially consideringBiomutant’srelatively successful opening week. If the recent leak is accurate, there should be an official announcement soon, but fans will have to be patient and wait for more updates.
Biomutantis available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions reportedly in development.
