It’s been over a month since the release ofBorderlands 3’s Bounty of Blood DLC, and something strange appears to be happening. It seemsBorderlands 3developer Gearbox Software has gone quiet.

One thing Gearbox has been praised for withBorderlands 3is its transparency. It has added a ton of content since launch, provided roadmaps to let players know when to generally expect content, and has even given players teases for upcoming DLCs. Because of this, players knew about the western theme of Bounty of Blood before its reveal, while the upcoming DLC is guaranteed to be aboutKrieg, the psycho character fromBorderlands 2. However, there hasn’t been an engaging event (aside from minis) for some time or a new roadmap to let players know when Krieg is arriving.

Borderlands 3: What We Know of DLC 4

Doubling down on this particular misfortune is how the last DLC is typically the best. The final DLC ofBorderlands 2, for example, isTiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keepintroduced aD&D-based DLC, while exploring the grief and pain many characters (but especially Tiny Tina') felt over Roland’s death. This leads to the conclusion that, however DLC 4 is approached, there’s one element it must have: Krieg and others dealing with the loss of Maya.

His psyche is already damaged enough, but there’s a good chance thatMaya’s death puts Krieg over the edge. Other than that, nothing else is known. Not whenBorderlands 3DLC 4 releases, not events that’ll take place before or after it, or the type of content coming in it (even if this is typically uniform), and this all is part of a bigger problem:Borderlands 3is missing its roadmap.

Borderlands 3 DLC Roadmap - Missing?

Borderlands 3should ideally reveal a new roadmap soon, but it’s worth pointing out that a summer roadmap has been skipped entirely. Mad Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot released in December as part of the fall/winter roadmap; Guns, Love, and Tentacles released in March as part of the spring roadmap; butBounty of Blooddropped in June, without a roadmap. On the surface, it could be thatBorderlands 3is abandoning the roadmap approach.

This would be unfortunate, as opposed toDragon Ball Z: Kakarotfor example, the roadmaphas let players in on what is coming soon. It set and managed expectations. On the other hand, the fact that one isn’t out yet doesn’t mean it’s the end all.Borderlands 3released in September, with the very first DLC releasing three months after. So too Guns, Love, and Tentacles followed after 3 months, and the same goes for Bounty of Blood. In other words, players may be able to expect the next DLC to drop next month, a full year afterBorderlands 3’s release.

This would seemingly imply the end ofBorderlands 3’s DLC run, and even if it does, events are as important as ever.Borderlands 3is hosting mini-events, which have mostly appeared in the game before, so it’s clearly paying attention to its anniversary. It could just be that summer was skipped for a roadmap in order to jam-pack a bigger and better fall/winter roadmap. If said roadmap is revealed soon, this would make sense and fans could expect a big celebration of its 1 year anniversary. In fact, if the roadmap began with DLC 4 and continued on, there’s a good chanceBorderlands 3could get a second season pass.

The first two games didn’t, butBorderlands 3is the first game in quite some time and the first in the current gaming atmosphere. A second season pass would mean that players would continue playingBorderlands 3, potentially into next-gen, and more DLC could be en route. It all remains to be seen, but fans should expect a roadmap soon or not at all. Which it is remains to be seen.

Borderlands 3is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
