Borderlands 3has now been available for over a year and a half, though it feels longer. That’s perhaps because Gearbox has done such an impressive job rolling out expansions, updates, and patches sinceBorderlands 3launched. There’s still one audience Gearbox hasn’t reached withBorderlands 3yet, which is that of the Nintendo Switch. It’s no surprise then that a recent leaked PEGI rating forBorderlands 3on Switch caused a stir. Unfortunately, however, that leak appears to have been an error.

According to GameSpot’s Gabe Gurwin, the PEGI rating for aBorderlands 3 Director’s Cuton Nintendo Switch was not accurate. A 2K representative was able to confirm thatBorderlands 3is not coming to Nintendo Switch, which is certain to disappoint many fans. Exactly why theBorderlands 3 Director’s Cutreceived a rating from PEGIin the first place isn’t clear. These types of errors do happen, but they’re rare. The listing for Nintendo Switch has now been removed from the PEGI website.

Nintendo Switch players are likely hoping that this is an attempt at misdirection from 2K. It wouldn’t be the first time that a publisher would represent the truth in order to protect an upcoming announcement. To be clear, there’s no evidence to suggest that 2K would misrepresent the truth here outside of the rating, which isn’t necessarily a reliable source in the first place. That said, it’s still possible that2K is planning a biggerBorderlands 3Switch announcement, but it shouldn’t be assumed.

What’s especially curious about the situation is that theBorderlands 3 Director’s Cutisn’t a version ofBorderlands 3. It’s aDLC release forBorderlands 3that was only just released on other platforms. It’s possible that a Nintendo Switch release ofBorderlands 3could brand the bundle asDirector’s Cut, however, since it’s potentially the last DLC for the shooter-looter. Still, it’s unlikely that a full release like that would be listed alongside a DLC release for other platforms.

This may be disappointing news for Nintendo Switch players for the moment, but that doesn’t mean thatBorderlands 3won’t be coming to the Nintendo Switch in the future. Now that what could beBorderlands 3’s final DLChas been released, it becomes that much easier for 2K to plan a Legendary Edition featuringBorderlands 3and all its DLC to be put together.

There’s also one other factor to take into consideration. 2K may be waiting for thenext iteration of the Nintendo Switchto be released before putting together aBorderlands 3release. That extra hardware power could make the difference. Regardless, it just means that Nintendo Switch games will have to continue waiting.

Borderlands 3is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
