Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon’s Keepwas one of the most beloved DLC packs forBorderlands 2. Now that Tiny Tina is returning to the Dungeon Master’s chair in the upcoming titleTiny Tina’s Wonderlands, some fans are looking back at what they loved most about the original DLC. One fan, in particular, decided to recreate Tiny Tina’s take on the Mimic, a quintessentialDungeons and Dragonsmonster, to celebrate the approaching release ofTiny Tina’s Wonderlands.

Mimics are a type of monster commonly portrayed as able to transform their shape to lure in prey. These creatures vary in size and often take on the form of treasure chests, crates, and other inanimate objects as they lie in wait for unwary adventurers.Mimics are found in a number of video games, but Tiny Tina’s take on them stands out from the pack in sheer toothiness.

Redditor Imperial_Fist_Bumps shared several photographs of their attempt at recreating a mimic fromTiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon’s Keep. Their mimic figure features a chest-shaped exterior that allows the figure to disguise itself as an ordinary treasure chest and a tooth-covered maw inside. The inside of the chest is pink and sculpted to resemble the inside of a mouth, with huge fangs that resemble ribs protruding from the sides of the top and bottom. The box can also be latched or unlatched to keep it shut.

According to Imperial_Fist_Bumps, the mimic shown here is a cast of a sculpture originally created using Monster clay, a wax-based sculpting compound. Monster clay doesn’t dry out or shrink, but it does temporarily soften under heat, and can be re-used indefinitely. Reportedly, Imperial_Fist_Bumps scanned the original sculpture into a computer and 3D printed the cast out in different box sizes. The final mimic was hand-painted using acrylic paints and ink as a tribute to theupcomingTiny Tina’s Wonderlands.

As of writing, it appears that other fans are very impressed by Imperial_Fist_Bumps’s creation. Several users applauded their hard work, with one going so far as to state that this sculpture could have beentaken right out ofTiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon’s Keep. Other users began sharing stories of their encounters with mimics inBorderlands 2. Three more users began treating the sculpture as though it were an actual mimic, stating that they were about to risk it all - presumably to open the mimic - or that they immediately checked to see where the mimic was going to attack from.
