Summary
Bungie has finally added a long-awaited and often requested all-black shader toDestiny 2, but there is a catch. Shaders are some of the most sought-after cosmetics inDestiny 2, with some of the best-looking ones being the reward at the end of the game’s most challenging activities, such ascompleting Crota’s End flawlessly. Shaders are also an effective way players can customize their Guardians in various hues to stand out and grab that coveted “Best Dressed” commendation.
In migrating toDestiny 2, players had to leave behind almost everything, including weapons, armor, and the legendary Superblack shader, which was obtainable during the Festival of the Lost inDestiny 1. Since then,Destiny 2has introduced many black shadersover the years, including the Erebos Glance through the Eververse store earlier this year. However, none of these shaders ever came close to giving fans what they wanted - a shader that covered every bit of armor in black without additional textures, as most of them had other colors that were mixed in.

After years of waiting, Bungie has finally introduced a true all-black shader, Twilight Keepsake, toDestiny 2, but has locked the long-awaited cosmetic behind a memento. Mementos are rare, single-use customization options that, at certain levels, unlock a title, tracker, and shader that can only be applied to crafted and Enhanced Adept weapons obtained through Nightfalls, Gambit, and Trials. However, with the arrival of Festival of the Lost, a new Lost Memento was introduced that will task players to complete three objectives to unlock it for the first time, after which they will have to farm to obtain more copies. Since Festival of the Lost is a three-week event, players who want this new addition will have a limited time to complete activities to get subsequent copies.
Over on theDestinysubreddit, players are divided on whether locking the all-black shader behind a memento was a good decision. On the one hand, some fans believe that Bungie should not have made the long-desired cosmetic limited only to crafted weapons as this means other guns, including thenew ones from the Festival of the Lost, armor, ships, sparrows, and ghosts, will be left out. Meanwhile, others commented in a thread about the topic that this change is a good thing because it gives players another reason to interact with the event and have something to chase for the next three weeks before the season ends.
While the drop rates for the memento are low,Bungie has been known to increase drop ratesduring events, so players may be in luck. With something to chase, more and more people will be interacting with the game, which can only lead to better matchmaking times and a higher player count.
Destiny 2is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
