The lead-up toDestiny 2’s latest expansion,Lightfall, has been eventful inside the game’s world, and Bungie has released an interactive trailer for any players in need of a refresher before the expansion’s release.Season of the Seraphhas seen some massive narrative reveals, including the original purpose of Rasputin to the final mission, setting the stage for The Witness' arrival in the Sol System, not to mention the other twists and turns in the story sinceThe Witch Queen. With the aid of Zavala, the new trailer hits on some of the most important points in the story leading to the discovery of Neomuna and the subsequent battle for the hidden city.
Over the last several weeks, Bungie has been pulling the curtain back onLightfallfurther by previewing what is coming when the expansion releases. The previews have largely been covering changes to buildcrafting, weapons and the sandbox, abilities, and the overall grind insideDestiny 2, but there has been little to no additional information about the narrative. Some additional information has come out as some players started getting their hands on the expansion’s collector’s edition and the three lore books it comes with, though it is not known how these could play intoLightfall’s actual narrative.

Bungie’s new interactive trailer doesn’t stray too far from this approach, serving more as a refresher of the story for players who may be new or returning to the world ofDestiny 2. Narrated byCommander Zavala, it recaps the big moments of the narrative since the release ofShadowkeep, from the first time players' Ghosts were possessed by The Witness to its eventual reveal at the end ofThe Witch Queen’s campaign. It also features tabs to click on for anyone who wants some additional information while managing to avoid giving away any potential spoilers for what is awaiting guardians on Neomuna.
The trailer is also the first of a proverbial one-two punch from Bungie’s video team to hype upLightfall, with the second being the latest ViDoc. Bungie’s ViDocs have become the norm ahead of an expansion’s release to speak further about said expansion and give a taste of things to come in the year ahead. As of this writing, the ViDoc has not been released but is teasing some new narrative reveals, the most prominent being Calus' new role as a disciple ofThe Witness.
Bungie hasn’t been shy about building up the apparent importance ofLightfall, namely the impact it will have on both the gameplay and narrative experiences. It is the culmination of a ten-year plan from the studio that, while it has had its ups and downs, has seen the world ofDestinyevolve dramatically since the first moments players' Ghosts found them in the Cosmodrome. From Neomuna to theCloudstridersto Calus and everything in between awaiting inLightfall, players will have plenty more to dig their teeth into soon.
