Summary
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3marks the return of the iconic villain Vladimir Makarov, and just like in the original trilogy, he commits acts of terrorism in the hopes of starting World War 3. However, it turns out that Task Force 141 could have saved several lives if they had noticed Makarov earlier on in one ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s missions.
The mission in questiontakes players back to Verdansk, a fictional country and the home of the originalCall of Duty: Warzonemap. Called “Flashpoint,” the mission is a flashback set four years before Makarov escapes prison and is one of the few bright spots in the latestCall of Dutycampaign, as it sees Task Force 141 trying to prevent a terrorist attack in Verdansk’s stadium. Though the mission tasks players with finding and arresting Makarov, and making sure not to shoot innocent civilians that are fleeing the area as they search through it, it turns out that the heroes could have caught Makarov much sooner if they had the eyesight of Reddit user benmetalhead.

ThisCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3fan noticed that Makarov was waiting in the back of an ambulance at the very start of the mission. As players are briefed onMakarov’s attackduring a brief car drive toward the stadium, they are able to look around the area, and if they look to the right while they enter the tunnel, they can spot Makarov. Considering how Makarov is found within the same ambulance during the back half of the mission, this is an incredible touch that many fans are appreciating, with Redditor zekromzero mentioning in the comments that a line of dialogue serves as another hint. Specifically, it is said that no medics should be on site yet, which should hint to players that something is off with this ambulance before they even spot Makarov.
While this detail is understandably being celebrated, the rest of theCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3campaign has not been received as well as this clever secret. Players are disappointed in the Open Combat Missions, deeming them unfun for a number of reasons. These levels, which resemble Spec Ops missions instead of the intense,setpiece-filledCall of Dutylevelsfans love, are paired with some questionable story choices to make for a largely disappointing campaign. While the multiplayer has been well received, and Zombies has its share of fans, most feel that the singleplayer experience is a letdown.
Still, even though the campaign is largely disappointing, it is nice to see that details like this still exist. From secrets like the mascot that poops out grenade launchers inBlack Ops Cold Warto a subtle nod toBlack Ops’ big Resnov twist, the series has always rewarded those that explore each mission thoroughly.
