Activision Blizzard has been holding off on announcing the upcoming release ofCall of Duty: Vanguard, but the silence has been broken. A very brief teaser about the Western Front has officially surfaced online.

Twitter user MrDaleJD recently shared a teaser clip ofCall of Duty: Vanguardwhich apparently came from the team behindCall of Dutyitself. The video is five seconds, but several things are captured in the brief video, including gunfire, a German sign that reads “attention,” a task force badge, and a World War 2-style helmet, grenade, and gun.

The gun and helmet from the recently surfacedCall of Duty: Vanguardteaserclip aren’t the only things that suggest that the nextCall of Dutyis a World War 2 title. The clip takes place in a dense forest, but several trenches are seemingly blockaded with barbed wire and fallen trees. The clip ends with a closeup on what appears to be a grave memorializing the fallen Sergeant Kingsley.

The gun featured in theCall of Duty: Vanguardtrailer is one that long-timeCoDfans will be familiar with as it is the returning Sten SMG. The weapon is also seen laying next to a Hammer grenade which was featured in 2017’sCall of Duty: WW2. The task force badge found in the teaser is similar to a special task force emblem inCall of Duty: WW2.

Behind the grave of Sgt. Kingsley is a sign that may tease one of the locations inCall of Duty: Vanguard. The sign seemingly teases Merville, Normandy which was the site of the historic D-Day operation. Merville was also home to the Battle of Merville Gun Battery, soCall of Duty: Vanguardmay focus on one or both of these historic battles.

The footage included in theCall of Duty: Vanguardclip plays like an old-fashioned tape as it’s edited to look like bits of imperfect film are being played. The teaser clip jumps around a lot to unveil the location and thehidden Easter eggswhich is a bit discombobulating during the first watch. Since this teaser clip is of the Western Front specifically, theCall of Duty: Vanguardvideo may be the first of several leading up to its eventual release.

SeveralCall of Dutyfans responded to MrDaleJD’s tweet praising the series' return to its roots, while others are disappointed by the prospect ofanother World War 2 game. One witty Twitter user pointed outCall of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s like to dislike ratio on YouTube in anticipation of the official reveal forVanguard. Most fans who responded to MrDaleJD’s tweet praised the visuals ofCall of Duty: Vanguarddespite how short the teaser is.

Call of Duty: Vanguardis expected to be revealed on August 19.
