Activision is pushing hard on theCall of Dutylicense this year, with not one but two new games on the way in 2022. The first is the sequel to the 2019Modern Warfarereboot, presumably calledModern Warfare 2, and the other will beCall of Duty: Warzone 2.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2will of course be the direct sequel to the series' popular and free-to-play battle royale multiplayer game. It’s a standalone product and so presumably will beWarzone 2,although as with the previous release, it’s being built as a companion. It will feature a new game engine as well as a “sandbox mode” that will presumably allow some customization of matches.

One other thing gamers do know about the upcoming title is thatWarzone 2will be skipping PS4 and Xbox One completely. While this may be upsetting news for gamers who haven’t been able to acquire a next-gen system just yet, it’s good news for those who want to see a game that uses the latest tech. By cutting out the old consoles the studio can work at perfecting an experience that’s faster and larger than ever before, and give their Xbox Series X and PS5 consoles a good workout. Several rumors about the game have appeared, too, including some new leaks about its map.

Call of Dutyleaker TheGhostofHope wrote on Twitter that based on what they’ve seen, they think that the map inWarzone 2will take place in the Atacama Desert, which would mean it’s set in South America. With the map rumored to feature ares fromthe originalModern Warfare 2, and the 2009 gamehaving iconic maps set in deserts called Rust' and ‘Afghan’, this seems possible. It’s speculation on the leaker’s part, but it was also repeated by Hydra9114, another well known leaker who previously revealed the Snoop Dogg skin forCall of Duty: Vanguard. With a few sources reporting the same thing, it could certainly turn out to be true, though fans should still take it with a grain of salt for the time being.

There’s no know release date for either upcomingCall of Dutygame, but some people are claiming thatWarzone 2willcome out alongsideModern Warfare 2. It’s also rumored to hit 120 FPS on day one, which would be quite the feat. Until then, updates and new seasons will continue to come to the originalCall of Duty: Warzone.

Call of Duty: Warzoneis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
