The reviews for CD Projekt Red’s highly anticipated RPGCyberpunk 2077are finally out in the wild and there’s a lot to dive into. While most critics are praising the game’s complex quest design, interesting characters, and impressive world design, they are also criticizing the game’s underwhelming performance as witnessed in the PC version. As it seems, the game’s staggering amount of bugs and glitches are even making the players compare it to 2019’s open-world gameDays Gonewhich was also heavily criticized for similar issues.
The PlayStation 4 exclusiveDays Gonelaunched to mixed reviews from critics, with most of them citing its unoptimized gameplay, performance issues, andbugs as the prominent reasonsfor its score. While the criticism wasn’t limited only to the game’s performance, many users believed that the prior was the driving force behind it and its story and open-world were far better than they were presented in those reviews. This is fairly indicative by the game’s User Score on Metacritic, which stands at 8.2 while the critics score remains at 71.

On the other hand,Cyberpunk 2077is also riddled with game-breaking bugs and boasts a Metacritic score of 91. Fans were quick to make the comparisons withDays Gone, as they felt that critics were being biased towardsCyberpunk 2077. Twitter user Saltiest Gaming was one of the first people to point out, stating that, “only certain games and devs can have an impressive array of bugs and glitches, and get a perfect score”! He further pointed out thatDays Gonewas “murdered” for having bugs and glitches.
Twitter user Persona was also quick to point out the difference between the Metacritic score ofCyberpunk 2077andDays Goneby citing the example of GamesRadar+ review of the respective games. Meanwhile, some fans also acknowledged that the performance issues weren’t the only reason for suchharsh reviews thatDays Gonehad gotten, simply stating that the game was “bad” in many regards. However, other people such as Twitter user CraigHarris456 thought such was the case withDays Gone only because it’s a PS4 exclusive, citing that the “media has an anti exclusive tilt with it.”
Game journalist Tony Polanco was also quick to point out that the bugs were the main reasons for the low scores ofDays Gone, which isn’t happening withCyberpunk 2077. A CD Projekt Red dev, since then, hasresponded to the criticism the game has receivedso far, simply implying that if a person doesn’t like a review then they should just ignore the score and, rather, read what the person wrote. Additionally, another CDPR dev has confirmed that most of the game’s issues that critics came across in their playthroughs have been fixed via the day one patch that is releasing alongside the game.
While the comparisons seem feasible at this point, fans should be reassured that CDPR will fix most of the game’s performance-based issues sooner than later. This is indicated by their previous AAA releaseThe Witcher 3 Wild Hunt, which also launched with a plethora of bugs and glitches, but was fixed later down the line.
Cyberpunk 2077is out August 07, 2025, for PC, PS4, Stadia, Xbox One, with a free next-gen upgrade coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2021.
