Summary
Dead by Daylight, the asymmetrical multiplayer horror game that plays host to an amalgamation of crossovers with popular horror characters, has teased fans about what seems to be a major announcement coming on January 9. Having recently released a new update for January 2024,Dead by Daylighthas made a few adjustments to some of the playable monsters, including The Onryo, The Hillbilly, and The Blight.
In the seven years since its 2016 launch,Dead by Daylighthas become the ultimate destination for fans of all things horror. Bringing in collabs withHalloween,Scream,Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Nightmare on Elm Street, and more, no other multiplayer horror game offers such a breadth of classic and iconic characters from the horror film ethos of the late 20th century and beyond. Most recently,Dead by Daylighthas crossed over with the likes of Chucky fromChild’s Play, the Xenomorph and Ellen Ripley fromAlien, as well as a collab with famous Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage, who himself has starred in a wealth of horror films across his career.

Now, with 2024 having just kicked off,Dead by Daylightposted a short clip on Twitter teasing what could be its next major crossover. The soundless video features a flickering flashlight sitting on a wooden table next to what appear to be bloodied pages of some sort. The text “Learn more on January 9” appears over the video, letting fans know when they can learn by Daylightmay have in store.
The leading theory among fans is thatDead by Daylightseems to be teasing a crossover with Alan Wake, the protagonist of Remedy Entertainment’s beloved action horror game duology of the same name. There wouldn’t be a better time forDead by Daylightto make a play for Wake, considering the monumentally successful October launch ofAlan Wake 2,a title that has recently gone on to win Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, and Best Game Design at the 2023 The Game Awards.
If it’s true thatDead by Daylightis teasingAlan Wake, it’ll be interesting to see if sequel co-protagonist Saga Anderson will be involved and if Scratch,Alan Wake’s evil counterpart controlled by The Dark Presence, will be added as a playable monster as well. Additionally,Alan Wake’s gloomy Pacific Northwestern town of Bright Falls would make for a perfect new map, if these rumors are indeed true. A fan under the tweet also brought up Slenderman, which would also be an impeccable fit forDead by Daylight.
Whatever it is this tease is hinting at, fans don’t have long to wait at all to find out more. In a previous tweet,Dead by Daylightconfirmed that it will be sharing more info about other changes it’s making in the Dead by Daylight Community Discord on January 9 at 9:30 AM ET. This will most likely be the time fans can expect the full reveal ofwhat’s coming next toDead by Daylight.
