Lightfall is slated to be a dramatic and epic expansion forDestiny 2, with a lot at stake for the Traveler’s followers. Following the story events from the Witch Queen expansion, the inevitable war with the Darkness is finally coming to the Solar System. From what’s been revealed leading up to Lightfalls' launch, a few ofDestiny 2’s beloved characters' lives may be at stake throughout the events of the expansion and its accompanying Season.
The Witness allying with Calus will make for the most powerful opponents the Vanguard has ever faced. One thing the wars throughoutDestiny 2have shown over time is that the Traveler and the Vanguard aren’t invincible, and even Lightbearers can be slain. The Vanguard has been able to keep the Tower relatively safe from most of the Traveler’s enemies, but that changed when Savathun infiltrated the Vanguard.Destiny 2’s Lightfall expansioncould very well be the end for some of the characters who barely survived some of the fights in the past, going back to the events of the originalDestiny.

Osiris
Osiris has always been a bold and daring character inDestiny 2. Due to the events leading up to and throughout the Witch Queen expansion, Osiris has lost the ability to wield the Light. Additionally, Orisis doesn’t have his Ghost, Sagira, anymore either, so his recent revival relied on powers from the Darkness. SinceOsiris is expected to wield Strand in Lightfall, especially without having a Ghost or the Light to rely on, he will be in a very vulnerable position. Osiris may be desperately gambling with more of the Darkness than he can handle.
Mara Sov
Mara Sov, the Queen of the Awoken is a powerful figure in theDestinyuniverse. Although, way back when Oryx first came into the picture, in the originalDestiny’s Taken King expansion, Queen Mara was believed dead for a short period of time, slain by the Hive God. It wasn’t until later in the expansion that Queen Mara was allegedly revived by her Techeuns, and her death was revealed to be part of a plan to infiltrate Oryx’s throne world.
Given Queen Mara’s history of the close call with Oryx, and her emphasized presence throughoutDestiny 2’s recent events, it could all be building momentum toward a tragic conclusion very soon. The Witness killing Queen Mara in Lightfall would be the ultimate move, demonstrating a clear difference in power between the Witness andthe Hive God Oryx.

Amanda Holliday
The Vanguard’s shipmaster, Amanda Holliday, has always been the tip of the spear when it comes to defending the Traveler’s stretch of outer space. While the deaths of other characters in Lightfall are based on speculation, Holliday has been explicitly shown in a dire situation. In a recent launch trailer for the Lightfall expansion, Holliday allegedly crashed her ship amidst combat withthe Witness' fleet of pyramid ships. This particular scene was remarkably similar to the Queen’s death by Oryx’s ship, back in the originalDestiny, which doesn’t bode well for Holliday’s survival. Ultimately, the community will have to wait until Lightfall releases to see if Holliday survives this encounter with the Witness.
Empress Caiatl
Caiatl has had a large presence recently inDestiny 2, albeit primarily within the Seasonal content. With Calus allying with the Witness, a battle between the new Disciple of the Witness and Caiatl is likely to happen in Lightfall, and the Cabal’s trademark pride may finally bring their demise, on either side of the war.Destiny 2’s Empress Caiatlalso has a history with Xivu Arath due to the latter invading and taking over the Cabal homeworld, Torobatl, so it’s possible that they will go face to face and the Hive God of War will win.
Destiny 2: Lightfallreleases on February 28 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
