Recently announced in Bungie’s weekly “This Week at Bungie” blog, the developer has recently given players one of the most detailed looks at how the smaller aspects ofDestiny 2will be changing inBeyond Lightso far. Covering topics like how the upcoming expansion will alter the experience for new players, one key new detail that stood out specifically, is the change coming to raid armor mods.

The new change coming toDestiny 2is that any new raid armor gained afterBeyond Lightlaunches will include a fifth raid-specific mod slot that older and non-raid gear won’t include. According to Bungie, the intention behind this change is to makeraid-specific loot inDestiny 2more rewarding for players who participate in these endgame activities, by giving bonuses specifically for the raids. However, the mods that will be going into these slots, which are already available for these activities, will also be changing, with many having specific uses and others being deprecated.
The deprecating of these mods simply means that the strength of the mods, specifically the ones that increase damage against certain enemies, like anti-fallen or anti-hive, will be dropping. Additionally, these mods will also be specific to each raid, meaning that aThe Last Wishmods won’t have any additional effect inGarden of Salvationor the upcoming raid coming withBeyond Light. Overall, these changes will be makingfarmingDestiny 2’s raidsinto a much more rewarding experience, as each run should theoretically become more manageable as players continue to earn the new armors.
With the launch of theBeyond Lightexpansion preparing to be one of thebest times to start playingDestiny 2, these new changes coming to the game are likely to continue to improve the experience. The raids are already one of the best received aspects of Bungie’s latest series, so making sure that these activities are more rewarding is clearly a step in the right direction for veteran players. So, while this might require players to head into raids and hunt down duplicates of armor they already have, the new loot pools will make old and new activities much more rewarding as a result.
