The season finale of the hit Marvel Studios seriesWandaVisionis dropping on Disney Plus this Friday. Matt Shakman, who directed all nine episodes of the series, recently confirmed that the show will lead right intoDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
InWandaVisonepisode 8, Agatha (Kathryn Hahn) revealed that Wanda’s (Elizabeth Olsen) “Chaos Magic” allows her to change the reality around her. The loaded penultimate episode also showed Wanda watching her parents die after being struck by a Stark Industries missile. Viewers then saw a flashback scene where Vision (Paul Bettany) supports Wanda after her twin brother Pietro was murdered by Ultron while trying to help the Avengers.

Shakman recently toldTVLinethat “the scene of [Wanda and Vision] coming together as a couple in the Avengers compound, sitting on the bed together talking about losing Pietro and Vision saying, ‘Grief is love persevering’ is the core of the whole show.” While Shakman is “appreciative” that fans have embraced the series, the director knows that some will not be satisfied with the finale. “And I know there will be a lot of disappointed people with some theories and some who will feel very smart, but you can’t please everybody, obviously. But I hope folks enjoy the ride,” Shakman said.Fans have already been disappointed byWandaVisionafter their theories didn’t pan out, specifically when the aerospace engineer mentioned by Monica Rambeau wasn’tFantastic Fourhero Reed Richards, as some believed would be the case.
The 45-year-old director noted that the finale will offer some resolution to the overall story arc and that Wanda’s story will continue intoDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.“Wanda will continue intoDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and there’s a lot more to her story to be told, so this is only one part of a very complicated and very rich life," said the filmmaker. Earlier this year, Marvel boss Kevin Feige stated that some Marvel series will get second or third seasons on Disney Plus, while others will hand off to a feature film. He also revealed thatthere’s room for upcoming seasons ofWandaVisionand reaffirmed that Elizabeth Olsen will star alongside Benedict Cumberbatch in the upcomingDoctor Strangesequel.
“The fun of the MCU is obviously all the crossover we can do between series, between films. So it will vary based on the story,” said Feige. He mentioned thatDr. Strange 2will be accessible to general audiences regardless of whether or not viewers have seenWandaVision. It was also announced that the upcomingDisney Plus seriesMs. Marvelwill lead directly intoCaptain Marvel 2,with Iman Vellani reprising her role as Kamala Khan opposite Brie Larson andWandaVisionstar Teyonah Parris.
Spider-Man’sSam Raimi was tapped to directDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.Meanwhile,Jade Bartlett (The Accountant) and Michael Waldron (Rick and Morty) penned the script. The loaded ensemble cast includes Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Benedict Wong.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverseof Madnessis scheduled to be released in theatres on June 08, 2025, whileWandaVisionis currently available on Disney Plus.
