The upcoming Doctor Who project,Time Lord Victorious, set tofeature the 8th, 9th, and 10th doctorsand take place over multiple different platforms, seemed a likelycasualty of the pandemic quarantines. Despite the odds, however, producer James Goss has declared that plans are still in motion, describing how Coronavirus impacted development, and how they worked around the hurdles.

Time Lord Victoriousis, like the Doctor himself, incredibly ambitious, impossibly bold, and plans to be everywhere at once, with the story intended to be told in audio dramas, comics, immersive theaters, and even escape rooms. Telling the story of the three Doctors “traveling across Space and Time as they defend the universe from a terrible race,“Time Lord Victoriouswas set to include well-known characters such as Rose Tyler, the Daleks, and the Ood. The wide range of formats and styles is perhaps fitting for a character who takes on new appearances so often, but clearly, some ofTime Lord Victoriouswas going to struggle after Coronavirus reared its head. Goss commented: “I was trapped in Turkey for a week and by the time I got back, the world had ended. I was convinced [Time Lord Victorious] was gonna be over.”

While Titan Comics have been chugging along as though nothing happened, and the novels benefited from not having to be worked on in an office, other aspects of the experimental narrative are clearly going to have to adapt. Goss assured fans that they are still investigating ways to ensure the project goes forward as planned: “The immersive theatre project has been finding ways in which they can reopen safely and still have a full immersive theatre experience. The escape room is looking at how social bubbles could work, so they can reopen safely.”

Figuring out how to re-open despite safety concerns is a question troubling many business all across the world right now, and there’s not always a simple answer to the problem. Despite this, the various wings ofTime Lord Victoriousremain committed to making things happen, and James Goss is openly thankful for that devotion: “The thing that keeps on happening whenever I have a meeting about [Victorious] is not just how exciting it is, but how lucky we are — because I genuinely thought the project would’ve been cancelled.” It is truly a credit to both Goss, and all the people involved with the project that they have been able to persevere in the face of such odds. Hopefully things will go smoothly, and fans can look forward to the full Time Lord experience when the project kicks off in earnest.

Doctor Who: Time Lord Victoriouswill drop on various platforms and formats over 12 weeks beginning September.
