Dragon’s Dogma 2is out and introduces a large-scale map filled with countless things to do. Aside from exploring mines and collecting valuable resources, the game bringsloads of side quests, each different from the others. One of these side quests isThe Phantom Oxcart, which involves the player investigating a suspicious Oxcart that roamsVermundin the middle of the night.
Uncovering the mystery of this Oxcart requires a few actions and choices that the player must take. This guide will provide a detailed walkthrough of the subquest and how all players can unlock it.

How To Start The Phantom Oxcart
First, you must reachBakbattahl, the capital city ofBattahl, in the main story. This is done by progressing in the “Nation of the Lambent Flame” main story quest. After reaching Bakbattahl, you must return toVernworth, which can be done by using the Oxcarts from Bakbattahl toCheckpoint Rest Townand then another Oxcart to Vernworth or by using aPortcrystal. In Vernworth, make your way to the Western Oxcart Station. Here, you will overhear a conversation about a Phantom Oxcart that travels after sunset, and the Side Quest will begin.
How To Complete The Phantom Oxcart
As the quest requires nighttime, you can sit on the bench nearby or at anyInn to pass the time. You will now need to go to the eastern gate inVernworthand follow the main path until you reach the marked area. Here, a soldier will be conversing with theOxcartdriver about transporting pawns. After the conversation, the soldier starts running away, and you have to tackle him using the Grab button to get some information out of him. He will provide you with a document and beg you not to turn him in.You have two choices here: accept his gold and allow him to go away, or you can escort him toGaol. As the game does not have a morality system, it is better to take the first option, which grants you 5000Gold.
With theMerchant’s Documentin hand, you must make your way toCaptain BrantorRegentkin Sven. As Captain Brant is easily accessible at theStardrop Inn, it is better to hand the document over to him. After talking to him about the Phantom Oxcart and handing over the document, he will suggest you follow the Oxcart to its destination, which can be done by assuming the disguise of a pawn. From the Inn, head back to the location of the Phantom Oxcart and take off all of thearmor setand weapons you have equipped by heading over to the Equipment tab on the main menu. This will allow you to talk to the cart driver. After looking at you, he will allow you to sit with the other pawns, unlocking the “Are We There Yet” bronze trophy. The video below shows how you may board the Oxcart.

During the journey, the driver will constantly express how he doesn’t like the behaviors of pawns accepting every order the Arisen gives them and that they are better off as enslaved people. After a little while, a pack ofGoblinswill raid the cart, and you will have to get out and protect the cart. The goblins are weak, so you may deal with them with your fists. Do not equip your weapons or armor to fight them. After the raid, head back to the cart to progress the side quest.
After more dialogue from the driver and a bit of riding, you will reachCheckpoint Rest Town, where you will be stopped by the guards who want to inspect the cargo. By inspecting the cargo, they mean beating all the pawns to check whether anyone complains. For this section, you have to wait out the beating and not fight back under any circumstance. After a few punches, another guard will stop the inspection, allowing you to board the cart for the last time.

You will now reach your final location nearFlamebearer Palacein Battahl. Here, another soldier will tell all the pawns to kneel, and you will be outed as an imposter, making them hostile. You can reequip your gear and weapons to deal with the soldiers. Do not worry; you will not be alone in this fight, as all your pawns will assist you. Even with the help of your pawns, remember that there are many soldiers, so this fight can be challenging.
After all the soldiers are dealt with, you will get theLabor Requisition Orders, which you must bring back to Captain Brant. you’re able to use aPortcrystalto save yourself a lot of time traveling back to Vernworth. After handing over the evidence to Captain Brant, you will get 4000 XP, theRing of Momentum, and 14500Goldas a reward for completing this quest. The Ring of Momentum moderately boosts maximum Stamina, allowing you to sprint for longer durations or take longer fights before backing off.
