However, during an interview with Sirius XM, the action star made it clear that he’d likeHobbs and Shaw 2to be a movie where the characters walk off into the sunset. When asked about wherethe production was forHobbs and Shaw2, Johnson said that he had a very good idea for what he wanted to do in the new film. He added that he’d already run it by all the people who would be in charge of the production and they were on board. He stated that believes he has an opportunity to create a movie within theFast and Furiousuniverse that goes against the grain.

Explaining that the next film in this particular series would be the “antithesis” ofwhat theFast and Furiousmovies are, it would allow him to basically retire his character. However, Johnson is keeping things rather mum as far as just how they would end up pulling that off. He’s also not divulging just when this film might even go into production.

In explaining why there’s some question as to when the work on the movie will start, the actor explained that he tends to go by the “Moses Method.” This method means that in order for his focus to be on a project, it has to be good enough to push all other projects to the side. Johnson said he’s had several of those Moses projects come up recently.

One of those projects, in particular, is having a direct impact on when the movie that could signal an official end toJohnson participating in theFast and Furiousuniverse might begin production. The actor said that Chris Morgan needs to be the screenwriter forHobbs and Shaw 2. However, Morgan is also working on another film Johnson is starring in calledRed One. Before they return to work on theFast and Furiousspinoff,Red Oneneeds to be finished.

Hobbs and Shaw 2is currently in development.
