In a surprising turn of events, oneElden Ringplayer was attacked by a roaming enemy while sitting at a Site of Grace, one of the game’s safest locations.Elden Ringis a game where danger lurks around every corner. Every cavern, catacomb, and tunnel has a plethora of enemies waiting to jump out and attack the player as they explore. Veterans of the soulslike genre have come to expect this from the game, consistently checking corners and long hallways for traps. The only locations in the game that were thought to be completely safe from enemy intervention are the Sites of Grace, that is until now.
TheSites of Grace are checkpoints inElden Ring. They function in the same fashion that bonfires would in theDark Soulsseries. Resting at a Site of Grace allows players to refill their Flask of Crimson or Cerulean Tears and replenish their health. However, doing so also resets all enemies in the Lands Between. The player can also pass time, level up, equip spells, sort their chest, and talk to prominent characters like Melina and Ranni. Players are able to travel between Sites of Grace after locating them and, when they die, they are resurrected at the last Site visited.

AnElden Ringfan, who is known by the name Odd-Flow-7330, posted a video to Reddit showinghow dangerous the safest location inElden Ringcan be. In the video, the player can be seen sitting at a Site of Grace when they are suddenly struck from behind and sent flying into the distance. When they finally get up and turn around, the player discovers that a Mad Pumpkin Head enemy was the one to attack them at this sacred site. This was a surprise to the player as Sites of Grace are usually thought of as an escape from combat, but in this case it was the complete opposite.
The video caughttheElden Ringcommunityoff guard and many players are left wondering how this interaction occurred in the first place. The most ironic part of the entire encounter might be that the player has equipped the same helmet that the Mad Pumpkin Head wears on their head. Many players are now speculating that this incident could be aglitch or a rare occurrence inElden Ring, while others are theorizing that it might be intentional by the game developers. As theElden Ringcommunity continues to investigate this surprise attack, players are advised to remain vigilant and keep their guard up even when resting at Sites of Grace.
