The animations inElden Ringare one aspect that can be divisive among longtime fans of FromSoftware, although some do help to make combat feel fluid and rewarding. This is mostly due to the way that several animations are recognizable from earlierDark Soulstitles, butElden Ring’s unique animationscan show the effort put into bringing the world and its characters to life.

One player appears to have found one of those unique animations during a PvP match, posting their findings to theElden Ringsubreddit where other fans have quickly started speculating on the cause. Additionally, some fans have also noticed that this unique animation has some similarities with one fromDark Souls 3that activates under certain conditions.

Originally posted by Reddit user Nox_Huntress, the short clip shows the end of a PvP match where the host player kills their adversary with a headshot. However, instead of falling backwards the way aheadshot kill inElden Ringwould normally leave the dead player, the adversary falls forward and crumples into a ball. At the end of the clip, Nox_Huntress even shows the difference between this unique animation and the regular death when fighting against a bow and arrow inElden Ring.

It appears that the cause of this unique animation may be that the adversary was jumping when the arrow landed the headshot, even if the jump is hard to notice in the clip. Some fans have also noticed that this animation may have also appeared in previous FromSoftware titles, includingDark Souls 3among others. Similarly to the cause of the animation beingElden Ring’s jump mechanic, theDark Souls 3version activates when either dying from a short fall or being killed by a low poise attack while in the air. Either way, the uniqueness of the animation is taken more as an insult than reward by fans.

The fact that players are still finding new things inElden Ringafter all this time is impressive, especially considering how many players continue to hunt across accessible areas, distant fixtures, and the game’s code. These types of rare situations where players run into unique animations naturally can almost appear to be a level of detail that might not have exactly been necessary for FromSoftware to bother with. However, it’s exactly that level of detail that still hasElden Ringplayers finding new pathsthrough the game as they keep diving into the game’s many nooks and crannies.

Elden Ringis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
