The regular torch inElden Ringis primarily used for lighting up some of the darker caverns and catacombs withinThe Lands Between. However, there are other types of torches that Tarnished can encounter on their harrowing journey to become the Elden Lord. And one of those types of torches is theSentry’s Torch.
Updated August 11th, 2023: TheSentry Torchcan be incredibly useful for players attempting to uncover invisible foes. Thankfully, this powerful item can be snagged from a merchant for a reasonable sum of runes, but players will need to find the shop keep first. To better help players find theSentry’s Torch location in Elden Ring, the following guide has been updated and now includes an added video.
What is the Sentry’s Torch
According to the description of the Sentry’s Torch, it was given to protestors of the Erdtree, and it has a special incantation thatallows users to see assassins cloaked in veils. It’s referring tothe Black Knife assassins that are invisible to playersthat don’t have the torch equipped. Its weapon skill, Torch Attack, is the same as the other torches, with the player thrusting the torch in front of them to attack foes. While it doesn’t do much damage, it can be helpful against fire-prone opponents.

How to Get Sentry’s Torch
There is only one location whereElden Ringplayers can find the Sentry’s Torch, and that location is theHermit Merchant’s Shack. The merchant will sell it to players, among other items, for7000 Runes.
If players don’t have enough money to pay the merchant, try selling unwanted crafting materials or using one of themany rune farming methods.
The Hermit Merchant’s Shack is right outside Leyndell, Royal Capital. There’s a Site of Lost Grace right in front of the shack, appropriately called Hermit Merchant’s Shack. However, players who have yet to unlock the site of grace can head southeast of the Windmill VillageSite of Lost Graceor north of the Outer Wall Battleground Site of Lost Grace.
How to Get to the Hermit Merchant’s Shack
If players find themselves at the Outer Wall Battleground Site of Lost Grace, they can locate the shack by heading east up a hill and immediately going northeast. The shack is on a hill overlooking the Outer Wallsave point.
What Can Sentry’s Torch Uncover?
By having Sentry’s Torch equipped, players will be able to see the multipleBlack Knife Assassin bossesaround the world. There’s also anillusory wall in Sage’s Cage at Altus Plateauthat only be removed with the torch. The Black Knife Assassin can be fought there andwill drop the Concealing Veil talisman, which conceals the wearer when they crouch away from enemies.
