Despite having arguably the weakest presentation of the entire Summer Game Fest season, Capcom is still knocking it out of the park right now. TheResident Evilfranchiseis not only getting great sequels, but incredible remakes.Monster HunterRiseis still getting support more than two years after its release.Street Fighter 6has just rejuvenated the franchise like no one thought it possibly could. And to top it all off, Capcom’s still got plenty of new IP in the works as well, with its next release beingExoprimal.
A 5-player co-op dinosaur horde game,Exoprimalwas first announced back in March 2022, and just over a year later, it’s almost time for it to hit store shelves. Much like the rest of Capcom’s recent offerings,Exoprimalseems absolutely bursting at the seams with content, with over six separate game modes, an entire story campaign, plenty of co-op and competitive multiplayer options, and10 unique exosuits to choose from, each with their own set of unique abilities and weapons that significantly change how the game plays. What Are Exoprimal’s Exosuit Variants?
On launch,Exoprimalwill feature 10 unique exosuits, all of which will cater to a different type of playstyle. These 10 exosuits are categorized by the game into three primary roles: Assault, Tank, and Support. Assault is the busiest category, with four exosuits belonging to it, including Barrage, Deadeye, Vigilant, and Zephyr. Barrage is a close-combat expert, using a crossbow grenade launcher to dispatch enemies efficiently. Deadeye is the jack of all trades exosuit, equipped with an assault rifle and good at just about everything. Vigilant is the sniper of the group, and finally, Zephyr is the swordsman, capable of dashing between enemies and delivering lethal blows.
Three exosuits belong in the Tank category. Murasame is a much slower version of Zephyr, capable of withstanding much more damage and parrying larger blows with its katana. Roadblock lives up to his name, wielding a gigantic shield that can be used to deflect oncoming attacks and push enemies back. Krieger possesses the most firepower of any ofExoprimal’s exosuits, equipped with a monumental minigun.
The Support class also features three separate exosuits. Skywave flies above the battlefield and slows enemies down. Witchdoctor seems to be the most helpful of the three, able to heal and buff allies while paralyzing enemies. And Nimbus is a fast-moving exosuit whose weapon can switch between healing or damage. But that seems to be just scratching the surface of whatExoprimalwill have to offer. On top of all 10 exosuits, and the many different customization modules and upgrades players can invest in,Exoprimalis also introducing Alpha Variants to the game.
Coming in a post-launch update,Exoprimal’s Alpha Variants will eventually be available for all 10 of the game’s exosuits. During therecent Xbox Showcase Extended, Capcom gave fans a better look at these variant suits, each of which seems to put a spin on the exosuit’s usual primary weapon. Deadeye’s Alpha Variant is called Burst Fire, and it switches out his usual assault rifle for one that’s equipped with both shotgun rounds and a burst fire mode.
Zephyr’s Alpha Variant gives it a throwable chakram. Barrage gets a rocket hop. Vigilant gets a marksman ability. Roadblock gets an even stronger fortress shield. Murasame gets a frost glaive. Krieger swaps out his minigun for a huge charge shotgun. Witchdoctor gets anOverwatch 2-inspired duality beam. Skywave gets a thunderclap ability. And finally, Nimbus gets dual double-barreled shotguns.
Exoprimalwill be released on July 17, 2025, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
