Bethesda has confirmed they are working onFallout 5, but there’s no telling when that highly-anticipated game will see the light of day. In the meantime, there are plenty ofFallout 4mods for players to experience that could be standalone games. From taming the Commonwealth’s beasts to entirely new and built-up settlements, there are plenty of stories that fans of the post-apocalyptic series can sink their teeth into.
6South Of The Sea - Atoms Storm
Atoms Stormis a tribute tothe South of the Sea modcreated by Baethre, Cryptdick, and the SOTS team. The original mod added new monsters and over 65 locations to the Glowing Sea, but due to constraints from its creators, it remained unfinished. HaplessAccreditation changed this by putting its own spin on the mod while retaining the original idea. Atoms Storm expands the stories and quests with redesigned maps and locations to fit around the Fanatics of Atom, the Swampfolk, and the deadly creatures that call the area their home.
In Atoms Storm, players are tasked with collecting radioactive wasteunder the surface of the Glowing Sea, as other clans in the area are after its mysterious powers. With hours of content from NPCs and new quests, South of the Sea could easily be a standalone game in a familiar area amongFallout 4players.

5Another Life
Last updated in June 2016,Another Lifecompletely changes the aspect ofFallout 4in general by providing players with an alternative start where they are actually a synth. The prewar sequence still takes place, but it’s actually a simulation running while a synth body is being created for the player.

The Lone Wanderer thenawakens within The Institute, where they’ll find a Pipboy and can pick their occupation from a processing unit. After this, the player will be transported to the Commonwealth without knowing they are a synth. Another Life is essentially the sameFallout 4but with an additional layer of roleplaying from the opening and the opportunity to pick from 36 different occupations that provide starting weapons, faction allies, perks, and various locations.
4Beast Master
Beast Mastermay not seem like a mod that could successfully transfer to being a standalone game. Essentially this mod allows any creature to become the player’s companion - and yes, that includes Deathclaws. Not only that, these mutated beasts can be given nicknames, equipped with accessories, painted, and commanded to scavenge useful items found around the Commonwealth. On top of that, players have a duty to keep them happy by spending time with their deadly companions and feeding them treats. To make this narratively feasible inFallout 4, players can craft a Control or Advanced Control Chip to implant into these creatures. Two additional perks also garner the same result - the Animal Friend and Wasteland Whisperer.

Beast Master could easily be made into an entirely new game based on a Vault Dweller taming the Wasteland, where instead of relying on human companions, they’d depend on their connection with the mutated beasts roaming the desolate streets.
3The Fen’s Sheriff Department – Bleachers 2
A sequel to the 2019 modThe Bleachers: A Diamond City Story,The Fen’s Sheriff Departmentis described as a story focused on companions rather than the player’s character. The mod addsmore dimension to the NPCs in Diamond City, creating new ones and expanding an entirely new district in the field and bleachers within the settlement.
There are four main storylines to complete in The Fen’s Sheriff Department, including some from the original mod like The Bleachers. This mod is extremely detailed, and could easily be its own game from the 50 new quests introduced, new and voiced NPCs, and even a new Vault and player safehouse.

2Operation Manhattan
Initially uploaded in May 2017,Operation Manhattanis a Brotherhood of Steel quest that takes place far away from the familiar land of the Commonwealth. Instead, it takes place within Manhattan, New York, with players fighting enemies like Super Mutants, Raiders, and Gunners through iconic landmarks like Central Park and the subway. The goal of this mod is torescue a Brotherhood of Steel soldierwho’s being held hostage in a Gunner facility.
There has yet to be aFalloutgame that takes place in New York City specifically. There’s potential forFallout 5to take place in the Big Apple as no location has officially been confirmed yet, so this mod could act as a teaser of things to come.

1The Machine And Her
The Machine and Herwas last updated in June 2020 before its creator announced that they got a job with Bethesda as a Quest Designer. It’s hard not to see why with this mod, which has evidently been painstakingly put together with four to five hours of gameplay and over 6,000 lines of unique voice-over content.
This DLC focuses on a new companion called Kit, which essentially improves howthe original companions inFallout 4could have been implemented in the base game. The Machine and Her suggests that one fully fleshed-out companion is the route to go with futureFallouttitles rather than a variety to choose from. Or, at the very least, a spin-off game that focuses solely on the relationship between the player’s character and the being they decide to explore the Wasteland with.

Fallout 4is available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
