TheFinal Fantasyfranchise is expansive. So many different titles of varying quality and genre, with several different tracks of music that have been composed. Most of the songs heard in many of theFinal Fantasygames are thanks toveteran music composer Nobuo Uematsu, whose portfolio of songs from the series is still one of the most fondly remembered and beloved tracks of gaming. One particular composer, Alex Moukala, decided to pay tribute to another one of Uematsu’s tracks, fromFinal Fantasy 10.
Alex Moukala is a Hollywood music producer whose works were featured in trailers and commercials for some blockbuster hits, such asAvengers: Endgame. He’s however quite famous for his remixes and compositions of various tracks from video games, spanning a variety of genres. These range from big-budget cinematic orchestral covers, to Daft-Punk-esque EDM covers of Zelda music, to his featured “funky” covers of various video game tracks, includingthe iconic One-Winged Angel fromFinal Fantasy 7. Moukala’s latest “funky” cover is once again from theFinal Fantasyfranchise, covering the Battle Theme fromFinal Fantasy 10.

Final Fantasy 10was the first game to bring in composers other than Uematsu to score music, each track carrying a unique identity and mood when used. One song from the game that fans will point to beingone of the best themes inFinal Fantasyis the battle theme, which was composed by Uematsu. Moukala’s “funky” cover keeps the same melody, including the trumpets and keyboard, keeping in-line with the song’s origins. The use of the bass and drums however give the song its funky touches, with Moukala occasionally adding his own personal strums to the song.
Moukala shows great dedication to the Final Fantasy series, with many of his music analysis videos and remixes revolving around the long-running RPG series. For thisFinal Fantasy 10song, however, he praised the various aspects of it, as well as Nobuo Uematsu’s incredible bassline work used throughout the original song.
Despite being one of the more contentious entries in the series, this game still has a lot of fans and support. Just last year,Final Fantasy 10outrankedFinal Fantasy 7in popularity when a Japanese TV station polled fans on various parts of the series. This cover further shows that despite all of the game’s faults, there are still many fans who cherish and adore this monumental game and its qualities.
