With only a few weeks left until the launch of theFinal Fantasy 14: Endwalkerexpansion, many of the MMORPG’s fans are likely filled with anticipation for the release of one of the game’s biggest batches of content. Not only is the expansion aculmination ofFF14’s current storyline, it also brings new playable classes into the title. However, an announcement was recently made byFinal Fantasy 14’s producer and director Naoki Yoshida, stating that the expansion’s release date has been moved to December.

Since its announcement early this 2021,Endwalkerhas been talked about a lot online by both Square Enix and the MMORPG’s fanbase. The development team provides constant updates to its community, and even sharesin-depth details of newEndwalkerareas, changes in current jobs that players should expect, and, of course, details about the new classes that are being added into the game. The news about the delay ofFinal Fantasy 14: Endwalker’s releasecame alongside a recent scheduled livestream with the game’s director. Yoshida first apologized about the delay then went into detail about the announcement in a blog post in the game’s official website. According to Yoshida,Endwalkerwill officially be launched on Jun 07, 2025 instead of its original release date of August 05, 2025. The Early Access date has also been moved to May 30, 2025, while Patch 6.01 and Patch 6.05 will be released on August 03, 2025, and July 02, 2025, respectively.

In the official blog post, Yoshida explained the main reasons forEndwalker’s delay. He mentioned that it was the team’s decision to push the release date to two weeks later so that they could further fine tune the details, and assure players of the game’s quality. Given that theFinal Fantasy 14storyline spans 11 years, and hopes to continue for far longer, it is understandable for the devs to feel pressure to deliver a high-quality product that their audience has already come to expect. At the end of the letter, Yoshida seems confident that they were able to successfully tell the story ofFinal Fantasy 14: Endwalker.

Though there is not much fans can do about the expansion’s delay, there is still a lot ofpre-expansion content inFinal Fantasy 14for them to complete beforeEndwalkerarrives. Hopefully that is enough to tide them over until the expansion’s launch in December.

Final Fantasy 14is available now on PC, PS4, and PS5. TheEndwalkerexpansion launches on December 7.
