Back in 2018 there were rumblings of Microsoft planning a return of theFablefranchise. Then, two years later at an Xbox Games Showcase, the newFabletitle was unveiled, along with some details about the game. After the closure of Lionhead,Fable’soriginal studio, Playground Games was announced to be taking on the mighty task of creating a newFableexperience. Even withgreat expectations of a newFabletitle, fans are cautiously optimistic as Playground continues to prove the game is in active development.
A lot of these updates do not come directly from Playground’s announcements, but instead can be found in things like job listings and employees posting about their work on the game. The latest Playground developer to reveal thatFableis still being worked on is Anna Megill, who recently posted that she was now the Narrative Lead on the game, after previously working as its Lead Writer since February 2021.

Megill has a history of working on some successful and critically acclaimed titles, including the DLC forDishonored 2inDishonored: Death of the Outsider. Megill also acted as the Narrative Lead forRemedy’sControl, as well asAssassin’s Creed Syndicate, Murdered: Soul Suspect, Guild Wars 2, and plenty of other games. ManyFablefans will be glad to know then, that the future of the action-RPG franchise is in the hands of an experienced video games writer.
There is another upcoming title that Megill has worked on as well.Ubisoft’sAvatar: Frontiers of Pandoragame from Massive Entertainment is reported to release in 2022, and fans are expecting more news will come on the title in the next few months.Fablefans have also been expecting some official updates on the latest game in the franchise. However, despite rumors of the game being at the latest Xbox and Bethesda Showcase, news around the soft reboot has remained mostly quiet, as fan expectations of the new title increase.
There a few things that are currently known about the newFablegame. First, while it doesn’t have a specific release date, it is expected thatFable 4will release beforeThe Elder Scrolls 6. Considering the latestElder Scrollsis likely a long way off, that doesn’t exactly inspire much hope in fans gettingFable 4soon. Playground has also expressed that it wants to keep the light-hearted atmosphere of theFablegames in the franchise’s newest entry, so fans shouldn’t expect it to be a dark fantasy game.
