Fortnitehas become one of the major names and brands in gaming since its release back in 2017. From humble beginnings as one of the most popular Battle Royale games of that year, to having most of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, DC Universe, and others as playable skins in the game,Fortnitehas become a titan of gaming, though now it seems to be going back to its roots.
AsFortnite’sChapter 2 comes to its end, and players welcome Chapter 3 with open arms, Epic Games is looking back not only on all that’s happened in Chapter 2, but going further than that to remind the players of the game’s original skins. As always, something ending inFortniteusually correlates with an event, and the end of Chapter 2 will alsofeature aFortniteevent like no other. Beginning on Saturday, December 4th at 4 p.m. ET, the event will be a one-time-only occurrance. Besides a new playlist, the Chapter 2 end event has also come with the appearance of original default skins in the shop, purchaseable for one day only for those that don’t already have access to them.

The Battle Royale has become synonymous with its skins. As the popularity ofFortnitehas soared, film characters, videogame characters, and even real life people have all appeared within the game’s store to be purchased as skins to be used while battling for that sweet victory royale. Last week it was announced that another Marvel character would be joining the ranks ofFortnite’scast, as the director ofS.H.I.E.L.D Nick Fury became available in the store.
This won’t be the first timeFortnitehas returned original skinsback into the game’s store. In November 2020 leakers discovered that the original default skins would be returning to the game as part of the launch of Chapter 2 Season 4. Releasing alongside the original pickaxe from the game, it seems Epic Games is often looking at its roots as much as it is looking forward to the next superhero or videogame character it can include.
Lately, Epic Games has had some tough decisions to make regardingFortniteskins, after the tragedy that took place last month at a Travis Scott concert. Scott had once held ties withFortnite; his likeness had appeared in the game, alongside a special emote and Scott had even held a virtual concert exclusively forFortniteplayers. With the death of eight people at a live show though,Epic removed the emotefrom theFortnitestore. The return of the original default skins is unlikely to be so divisive, though it does beg the question of whether players will once again be mocked for wielding the default skins.
