Summary

Fortniteis making some changes to how “confrontational” emotes are displayed to other players. WhileFortnitedoes not currently allow players to speak directly to enemies, emotes have frequently been used as a taunt after eliminating an enemy player. There are some emotes like “Take the L” or “Laugh It Up” that can be seen as toxic to some fans of the series, which can ruin the enjoyment of the game for some players.

Emotes are a major cosmetic category forFortnite, which can add a variety of lively animations to a player’s current avatar. Other cosmetics can include weapon skins, character skins, backpacks, pickaxes, and more. In addition, there have been rumors thatFortnitewill be adding a new type of cosmeticin addition to the ones currently available. Many changes and additions toFortniteare being considered all the time by Epic Games, with emotes being a topic for current tweaks.

According to Epic Games, changes to how players see “confrontational” emotes will be made soon. In an update coming April 23, players will no longer see several emotes when used by an enemy player. These “confrontational” emotes will be displayed as standing still with no emote sound when used by enemy players. There will be an option to change this, which can be found under the “social privacy” settings in the main menu. By default, players will only see the affected emotes from players in a party, with other options being to see the emotes from no other players or show from all players. There are hundreds of emotes available, with some emotescoming back to the item shop inFortniteperiodically. However, the only emotes that will be affected in the update are listed below.

Fortnite Emotes Affected by April 23 Update

There are only four emotes hidden from players in the coming update, all of which can be considered confrontational. These new changes do not affect the ability of players to use these emotes on their own. Emotes like “Laugh It Up” and “Take The L” can be seen as toxic when used against an enemy player, with some players wishing to not see these types of emotes entirely.Rare emotes inFortnite, like “It’s Complicated” and “Kiss the Cup” are unaffected. The update will come in a patch labeled v29.30 on April 23, which will also include Billie Eilish coming to Fortnite Festival.

There have been a lot of changes made to howemotes and other cosmetics are displayed in the store inFortnite. This update, however, seeks to change the way players see emotes entirely. In an effort to combat toxicity, these changes can help players escape negativity when playing the game. Thankfully, players who do not want this change inFortnitecan adjust how they see emotes back to the way they were just by changing a setting in the main menu.
