Fortnitehas become synonymous with franchise crossovers over the past year or two. From major sports leagues like the NFL and NBA to gaming and film icons likeGod of War’s Kratos and Ripley fromAlien, the battle royale title has become a mecca for nearly any and all of pop culture.Fortniteis continuing on with the trend, this time adding Bloodsport from the upcoming DC film,The Suicide Squad.

Director James Gunn’s 2021 reboot of 2016’sSuicide Squadis slated to hit US theaters on August 6. Played by Idris Elba, Bloodsport is a deadly mercenary in prison for putting Superman in the ICU with a Kryptonite bullet. Filling the role left by Will Smith’s Deadshot from the first film,Bloodsport’s role was specifically written for Elba.

Posted on the officialFortniteYouTube channel, the video opens with the Bloodsport actor himself talking about the incoming skin. Elba speaks on his character’s background, that he’s been trained since birth by his mercenary father, anything he wields is “legally considered a deadly weapon,” and a “world-class” brutal marksman. The trailer showcases Bloodsport using a wide variety of weapons, including a Hand Cannon, SCAR, Rocket Launcher, and Rail Gun, illustrating his film counterpart’s ability to expertly wield any and all weapons. InThe Suicide Squad, Bloodsport’s high-tech suit allows instant access to his entire arsenal, something completely conducive forFortnite.

Many of the clips in the trailer also featureThe Suicide Squad-mate Harley Quinn in the background, although not in her film-accurate attire. Bloodsport has a vastly different design compared to his comic book counterpart, which has him sporting camo pants and a bandanna. This stark costume alteration serves a practical purpose, however. In the comics, Bloodsport can simply pull guns out of thin air.Bloodsport had his powers altered for the film, as the previously mentioned high-tech suit is comprised of transforming pieces of munitions giving the character a more believable feel.

Fortniteseems to be on a roll in terms of crossing over with current major films. A few days ago,Fortnitereleased amap based on M. Night Shymalan’sOld. Keeping a similar premise to the horror film, players must gather resources, craft tools, discover clues, and escape the beach before a 30-minute timer runs out, aging and slowing them down in the process. WhileOldis a bit of an odd crossover, it may bode well forThe Suicide Squadgetting a similar treatment.

Players will be able to drop in as Bloodsport soon, releasing on August 3.Early reviews for his movieThe Suicide Squadare positive, which may lead to even more of Task Force X joining the battle royale.

Fortniteis available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
