Something big seems to be arriving inFortnite. Epic’s battle royale has often been one with teases that lead to great pay-offs, and theFortniteTwitter account has been sending off a barrage of hints that indicate something is on the way.
Season 5 of Chapter 2 forFortnitekicked offlast month, and it came with many changes. Players of course were given map adjustments, a new battle pass, and more. But now something else seems to be happening. Over the past few hours, a bevy of tweets has been shot out of the official @FortniteGame Twitter account.

The tweets are very cryptic. They seem to be some type of distress call, the first being a call for help toDrift, a popular character from Season 5 of Chapter 1 ofFortnite.Specifically, the first tweet reads “Drift? Drift. Come in. Do you read me?” Additional tweets claim that the Fox Clan is in need of help, Fox Clan being the group that Drift is a part of, the group that his mask represents.
Although multiple tweets went up over a series of an hour or so, it seems as if they have already been taken down, almost as if they were not allowed to be up in the first place. Someone is perhaps hiding something. While the battle royale has worked on a plethora of crossovers, with the latest being the addition of theTerminator toFortnite,it looks like this storyline could be a callback to an original plot from years ago again which could be interesting.
In Season 5 of Chapter 2 alone,Fortnitehas seenPredator, theMandaloreand Baby Yoda, and the aforementionedTerminatorcontent. It is very interesting that these cryptic now-deleted tweets are discussing the Fox Clan and Drift, elements ofFortnitethat are original. The team behindFortnitecreated plenty of creative content without the crossovers before the likes ofBatman, Marvel, Borderlands, Deadpool, and more. Whatever this secretive thing is, it has the chance to excite some of the old-schoolFortnitefans who have a fondness forFortniteoutside of the crossover content.
As far as what this means for the game outside of lore–or if it is even lore at all–no one knows yet. Players do, however, have a$20 million dollarFornitetournamentto look forward to this year. Of course, the COVID concerns of 2020 took a lot of that away last year, so hopefully, plans will move forward much more smoothly in 2021.
Fortniteis out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
