Summary
An amazingly charitable game store customer purchased nearly CAD $7,000 worth ofPlayStation 5and Xbox Series X consoles, then left them at the counter to be given away to strangers for Christmas. This feat of altruism adds to the list of someextremely generous gifts that have been purchased or already given awayin the run-up to this year’s holiday season.
Gaming hardware has long been a popular type of charitable gifts, especially during the festive season. For example, former NBA starShaquille O’Neal gave away around 1,000 PS5s and Nintendo Switches to kids for Christmas2022.

In yet another example of this trend, one person recently purchased five of eachPS5and Xbox Series X consoles to be given away to strangers for Christmas. They did so at Jaysterbaby, a small game store operating out of Canada. Taking to TikTok on November 16, the shop’s owner shared the charitable customer’s receipt, revealing that this move set him back nearly CAD $7,000, or approximately USD $5,000. “He told me to give them away for Christmas, so I guess if you want one, just let me know in the comments,” the owner explained.
The video amassed over half a million views and more than 11,000 comments within the first 18 hours of emerging on TikTok. It is currently unclear how Jaysterbaby intends to decide who gets to walk away with one of these PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles come Christmastime. As for the mysterious stranger who footed the bill, had this charitable person waited just 48 hours longer, they actually could have saved hundreds of dollars on their purchase.

Specifically, Microsoft’s newly confirmedBlack Friday deals include $50 off on the Xbox Series X—including itsDiablo 4andForza Horizon 5bundles—starting from November 18. The deal itself is valid in both the U.S. and Canada. Likewise, the new PS5 Slim model combined with eitherMarvel’s Spider-Man 2orCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3is also currently available at 11% off from select retailers across North America.
On the other hand, it’s unsurprising that someone spending thousands of dollars on Christmas gifts for strangers was unfazed by the prospect of saving another grand on their purchase, assuming they were even aware of the aforementioned offers in the first place. Either way, anyone who finds themselves with a new gaming console in the coming weeks will also have a chance to take advantage of some massive software deals; both PlayStation andXbox are discounting countless games for Black Friday, and are expected to do the same in December.
