Summary
Genshin Impactplayers have been hoping for HoYoverse to clean up the artifact leveling process for years, as the system is currently buried under too many menu screens that slow down this pivotal part of the game. Though Fontaine has broughtmany quality-of-life features toGenshin Impact, the popular gacha title still has plenty of room for improvements, especially when compared to the convenience of its younger cousin,Honkai: Star Rail.
Artifacts inGenshin Impactrepresent the most important aspect of leveling up a character, as a good artifact loadout can push their limit to new heights. In order to upgrade an artifact from Level 1 to Level 20,Genshin Impactplayers must feed other artifacts into it for experience, gaining new secondary attributes (or raising their existing ones) after each milestone. However, the upgrade process is not only staggered by a limit on the number of artifacts that players can feed into it, but also by having to navigate redundant menus for every level up.

This problem was pointed out by Maddix00 on the mainGenshin Impactsubreddit, using one of the new Fontaine artifacts as an example. The community unanimously agreed that having to click the Confirm button every time an artifact leveled up was a pointless chore, and thankfully, HoYoverse seems to be working on a fix for the upcoming Version 4.3. Namely, it will remove the pop-ups entirely, and will greatly expand on the amount of artifacts thatGenshin Impactplayers can salvage for the upgrade process.
More importantly,Version 4.3 forGenshin Impactwill be adding an auto-upgrade button for each milestone level (4, 8, 12, 16, and 20), allowing players to dictate the pace of the upgrades due to the randomized nature of secondary attribute rolls. This will come in handy, as the new update is set to introduce two artifact sets toGenshin Impact, one that will cater to the upcoming 5-Star Geo Claymore Navia, and the other that will fit Baizhu’s style of healing.
Though Version 4.3 will not feature any new zones, Version 4.4 is set to introduce the long-anticipated Chenyu Vale, finally bridging the gap between Liyue and Fontaine. WithFontaine’s Archon Quest concluded in Version 4.2, HoYoverse will hopefully take the time to introduce quality-of-life changes as it prepares the way for Natlan, the next region of Teyvat thatGenshin Impactis set to cover. Artifacts have long been one of the clunkiest aspects of the game, and thankfully,Genshin Impactplayers won’t have to wait long for a permanent solution.
