As its name might suggest,Ghostwire: Tokyois centered around the paranormal, withsome of the many Yokai from Japanese folkloreplaying a central role throughout much of the game’s main story campaign. This also extends to the game’s side missions too, one of which features a Zashiki-warashi, which loosely translates to “parlor child” and lends its name to the side mission itself.

In “Zashiki-warashi,” the spirit of an old woman asks players to help her to rescue her missing parlor child, who she believes has been kidnaped by her former landlord. AllGhostwire: Tokyoplayers need to do to complete the mission is find the Zashiki-warashi and bring her back to the old lady, though, thanks to some unusual magic, this ends up being a lot more challenging than first meets the eye.

How to Find the Zashiki-Warashi

Luckily for players, the old lady is standing right outside the house in which the Zashiki-warashi is located. Unfortunately, however, the landlord has found a way to make items and even entire rooms disappear, meaning that players will need to use their intuition as well asKK’s Spectral Vision abilityin order to figure out where the missing spirit is being held. It’s definitely there somewhere though, as evident from its constant cries.

Upon entering the house, players should follow the corridor round to the right and look for the second scrap from the landlord’s diary on a small table in the corner. Reading it will reveal that he’s hidden the key to a lockbox in an invisible altar somewhere in the house. To find it, players should double back on themselves and follow the corridor to the left side of the house. Through a glass-paneled door on their left, players will come to a room with a dark patch on the wall opposite the door, and using KK’s Spectral Vision (press Square) will reveal both the altar and, ultimately, the key.

With the key now in their possession, players should head to the main living area, which is opposite the house’s front entrance. In the left wall cabinet in the back right-hand corner of the room, they’ll find the lockbox to which the key belongs, and opening it will reveal a floor plan for the house that they are in. Players will soon realize, however, that one of the rooms has been scribbled out, suggesting that there may be something else hidden here besides just an invisible altar.

After obtaining the floor plan, players should make their way to the tatami room with the two fitted closets built into the left-hand wall. Initially, this room appears to be completely empty save for a few blankets and futons on the floor, but, by using KK’s spectral vision again, players will be able to reveal a sliding door on the wall to their right. Through this door is what appears to be a child’s bedroom and thevengeful spiritof the building’s former landlord.

to defeat the landlord and rescue the Zashiki-warashi, players will need to form a Hand Seal similar to the one that they used toget into KK’s safehousea little earlier on. For this one though, players will need to start by flicking the right analog stick up and then make a full circle by rotating it around clockwise. When prompted, they can then press L2 and R2 together to release the charged energy and banish the landlord’s spirit once and for all. For those having trouble, it’s possible to have KK deal with everything simply by holding the Square button.

With the landlord now gone, players will be free to place the rice crackers that the old lady’s spirit gave to them in the blue bowl at the back of the room to summon the Zashiki-warashi. She’ll thank them for their efforts before heading outside, which is where players should head next. Once there, they’ll simply need to speak to the old lady’s spirit and the Zashiki-warashi to finish the quest and claim their rewards.

Like all of theother side missions inGhostwire: Tokyo, players will receive both Meika and Spirits for turning in the quest. In addition, though, they’ll also be able to absorb the spirit of the Zashiki-warashi to receive a Magatama, which can be used to unlock new sections of the Skills Menu and grant access to new skills and abilities. Assuming that this is their first time completing a side mission involving a Yokai, players will also unlock the “It’s All Thanks to Yokai” trophy/achievement at this point.
