Upgrading weapons is a crucial step inGod of War Ragnarok, as it can increase Kratos’ damage. Each weapon has its own necessary materials whether it’s for Freya, Atreus, or Kratos himself. Exploring the nine Realms and fighting tough opponents will reward players with the requirements to level up the weapons at the blacksmith shop.
The Leviathan Axe requires an item called the Frozen Flame. Eight flames in total can be foundacross the Realms inGod of War Ragnarok. The last flame is split into six Frozen Sparks, which are collected by completing the Hel to Pay Favor inGod War Ragnarok.

Where To Find Frozen Flame In God Of War Ragnarok
Most Frozen Flames are rewarded upon finishing a certain chapter inGod of War Ragnarok, or by defeating a boss while completing The Path quests. However, maximizing the Axe’s powers will surely benefit players, as it makes Kratos’s damage more powerful. The Frozen Flames can be found by following these steps.
Frozen Flame 1: Defeat The Huntress
During the Surviving Fimbulwinter’s main quest inGod of War Ragnarok, players can defeat The Huntress to receive the first Frozen Flame. Upon heading to the Upper Wildwoods, Kratos and Atreus will be ambushed by the boss. She’s a fairly easy boss to beat and has an obvious weak point.
Frozen Flame 2: Defeat Alva
While exploring the Temple of Light in Alfheim during Groa’s Secret chapter, Alva is a Light Elf Commander that blocks Kratos’s path once he tries to leave. Defeating Alva will reward a Frozen Flame.
Frozen Flame 3: Defeat Nidhogg
In The Reckoning chapter whereKratos decides to help Freya remove her curse inGod of War Ragnarok, a Nidhogg boss will ambush the duo. Slay the giant beast to get a Frozen Flame.
Frozen Flame 4: Defeat The Hel-Traveler
While exploring Helheim in chapter 12, Reunion, a Hel-Traveler mini-boss will come along to fight Kratos and his companion. The fourth Frozen Flame is obtained by killing the Hel-Traveler in Helheim.
Frozen Flame 5: Defeat The Flame Phantom
By seeking Surtr and trying to summon Ragnarok for the war during chapter 16, Kratos will be pushed back and forced to fighta Flame Phantom inGod of War Ragnarok. Weaken the boss and destroy all the springs surrounding the area to beat it. As a reward, the boss drops a couple of important materials and Frozen Flame is one of them.
Frozen Flame 6: Defeat The Crimson Dread
The sixth Frozen Flame requires a bit of work, as it’s not obtainable in the main quest. After completing the 13th chapter, Creatures of Prophecy, a new Favor will begin shortly after. The Scent of Survival Favor inGod of War Ragnarokwill lead Kratos to The Crater, a hidden area of Vanaheim. Upon reaching the new area, follow the For Vanaheim! side quest to rescue a friend and find The Crimson Dread. Slay the dragon to collect a Frozen Flame.
Frozen Flame 7: Defeat Svipdagr The Cold And The Sisters Of Illska (Berserker Boss)
Upon triggering theFit for a King Favor inGod of War Ragnarok, players will encounter Svipdagr the Cold and the Sisters of Illska Berserker Bosses in Alfheim. Although they are three, the two sisters share the same HP. Defeat the Berserkers and get the Frozen Flame.
Frozen Flame 8: Where To Find All Frozen Sparks
Upon releasing the vicious wolf Gram in the main quest, the beast will jump between Realms by creating a tear, introducing theHel to Pay Favor inGod of War Ragnarok.Kratos must close these Hel-Tears to stop the Hel-Walkers from invading the Realms. There are six tears in total, and each one rewards a Frozen Spark. Closing the final Hel-Tear will automatically reward players with a Frozen Flame. The six Hel-Tears can be found in:
