Grand Theft Auto 5remains one of the most popular games in the world, in no small part due to the ongoing success of its multiplayer halfGrand Theft Auto Online. SoonGrand Theft Auto 5will be able to reach even more potential players, with a tentative release window of March. That may no longer be the case, however. A leaker claims to have heard thatGrand Theft Auto 5’s next-gen development has hit a hitch and an additional delay could be forthcoming.
The report comes from a Brazilian leaker named Matheusbr, who shared what they’d heard on Twitter. According to Matheusbr, the development ofGrand Theft Auto 5: Expanded and Enhancedfor the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S has been “complicated.” As a result, there’s a “great” possibility thatGrand Theft Auto 5’s next-gen portswill be delayed out of March. They won’t be delayed substantially, however. Matheusbr says they’re likely to be released in April or May, instead.

To be clear, this report has not been corroborated. Matheusbr did not provide sources for their information and it isn’t clear what their reputation is for this kind of leak.Rumors regardingGrand Theft Autoare rife and rarely reliable. It would be best ifGrand Theft Autofans took this leak with a grain of salt, at least until Rockstar makes another official statement aboutGrand Theft Auto 5: Expanded and Enhanced’s upcoming release.
With that said, a delay to April or May forGrand Theft Auto 5for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S isn’t by any means outside the realm of possibility. That’s becauseGrand Theft Auto 5: Expanded and Enhancedis already being released way beyond all expectations. The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S have been available for well over a year, showingRockstarisn’t exactly prioritizing a quick launch. It has also been delayed before, showing Rockstar is comfortable pushing the game back.
Grand Theft Autofans are more than welcome to criticize the situation, of course.Grand Theft Auto 5has been available since September 2013. It’s already been ported from PS3 and Xbox 360 to PS4 and Xbox One, not to mention PC. Why it has been so difficult to bringGrand Theft Auto 5to thenew generation of consolesis a question likely without an answer that players would appreciate.
Regardless, with just a couple of months left before thetentative release ofGrand Theft Auto 5, more information should be forthcoming from Rockstar soon. That means that, whether it’s a confirmation of a March release or a delay beyond, Rockstar should confirm this leak’s veracity before long.
Grand Theft Auto 5is available now on PS4, PC, and Xbox One, with a release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S planned for March.
