Despite the game originally releasing all the way back in 2013,Grand Theft Auto 5still has one of the most vibrant online communities of any major multiplayer titles, with the game topping the charts month in and month out due to its consistently updated multiplayer modes. Throughout the years, this online space has seen a number of significant online events, both organized byRockstaritself and by its sizeable fanbase.

However, few compare in sheer bizarreness to the current conflict going on withinGrand Theft Auto 5’sworld, which sees players dressed in neon green and purple alien suits engaging in intense hand to hand warfare. Dubbed the “alien war” by fans, it appears the conflict will be coming to a head tomorrow, May 15, with players organizing an explosive final battle which will seemingly declare who is truly the greatest neon alien faction.

Announced on Reddit, the upcoming war entices fellow aliens to rise up and travel to the Los Santos airport where boththe green and purple armies will go head to head in a fierce battle. The rules appear to be simple. Players will need to suit up in either a green or purple alien costume which can be acquired from the “arena wars” section of Ponsonbys. No guns are allowed, only melee weapons, so players joining in on the battle must verify not to pull any firearms. The official starting time appears to be at 8 pm Eastern Time, which would make it around 5 pm Pacific Time.

Speaking to IGN about the finale of the hilarious in-game war, Adam Long - the originator of the alien war idea - and his fellow alien comrades had a lot to say about the event, why it was so important to start it amidst quarantine, and why it’s important it finishes now. “Our country is on lock-down, so we were constantly looking for new stuff to do on lots of different games,” Long began, claiming it’s amazing “watching all the posts on Reddit,TikTok, and YouTube of the community just coming together and having so much fun during these crazy times.”

Another member of the game’s community, Florent Gradit-Perier, went on to claim how it was great watching players bond through the idea, stating “I saw some clips on our Subreddit with 15 aliens on a bus, or just chilling in the street,” going on to celebrate how they were “unified.” However, it seems the community knew that all good things must come to an end, with Zhi Ko adding “the core game of GTA was being ruined, and this war had to be over. It was getting to a point where you can’t even get on GTA without seeing a hundred aliens going around killing you every five seconds.” Regardless, at least tomorrow’s war will be one for theGrand Theft Autohistory books.
