Summary
In this modern age of gaming, it’s very rare for a game to come out and still be talked about avidly months later, especially during a year as busy as 2023. But somehow,Hogwarts Legacyhas managed to stay in the conversation since its launch all the way back in February, and witha Nintendo Switch release slated for November, it doesn’t seem like it’s going to go away anytime soon.
The first truly open-world RPG set in the Wizarding World,Hogwarts Legacyisn’t the most complex role-playing game, but it does offer players a good handful of intriguing choices during their journey. By far the most important decision players will make during theirHogwarts Legacyplaythrough is which Hogwarts House they wish to belong to, a choice thatlong-timeHarry Potterfanswill likely already have some pretty strong feelings about. These strong feelings have led to an interesting trend inHogwarts Legacy’s player-base, a trend that the game’s Nintendo Switch launch probably won’t impact all that much.

Hogwarts Legacy’s Houses Will Probably Maintain Their Current Popularity Even on Switch
Choosing a House inHogwarts Legacyisn’t an easy feat. Each House inHogwarts Legacygives players access to a unique common room, and an exclusive questline, some of which are definitely better than others. For long-timeHarry Potterfans, it’s likely that they already know which Hogwarts House they technically belong to, and are therefore left with the dilemma of either choosing that House or switching allegiances for the sake of an exclusive quest.
Soon afterHogwarts Legacy’s initial release, fans dug up some interesting percentages on the game’s four Houses. Fans discovered that around 30% of players chose Slytherin, while around 29% chose Gryffindor, 22% chose Ravenclaw, and the remaining 19% went with Hufflepuff. Over the next few months, these percentages would change quite a bit, but only for the second and third spots, with Slytherin remaining the most popular House and Hufflepuff staying at the bottom of the heap.
The most recent round of percentages dropped back in May, and yielded some not-so-surprising results. Once again, Slytherin was in the top spot, with Gryffindor firmly seizing the number two spot. However, for the first time since launch, Ravenclaw found itself at the bottom of the popularity rankings. The most obvious explanation for this is thatHogwarts Legacy’s Ravenclaw House is a tad disappointing, with no real House companion and a fairly lackluster exclusive quest. With Hufflepuff having the exclusive quest that takes players tofan-favorite location Azkaban, it only makes sense that the House would start to slowly climb the ranks, though admittedly not enough to land it even the number two spot.
WhileHogwarts Legacy’s Nintendo Switch launch is sure to add a plethora of newcomers to the game’s player-base, it probably won’t end up impacting this social trend all that much. Now, almost seven months afterHogwarts Legacy’s initial launch, it’s common knowledge that Hufflepuff has the best exclusive quest of the bunch and that Ravenclaw has the worst. But even in spite of that, it seems likely that the top two spots will still belong toSlytherin and Gryffindor. At the end of the day, Slytherin and Gryffindor are simply the more popular Hogwarts Houses, being the most widely recognizable to casualHarry Potterfans. And with the Nintendo Switch often marketing itself towards a more casual market - andHogwarts Legacyhaving been out for a while now - it would make sense that anyHogwarts Legacynewcomers will likely choose one of the more recognizable Houses.
Hogwarts Legacyis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with a Switch version releasing November 14.
