There are many exciting things about Team Cherry’s upcoming gameHollow Knight: Silksong. One of the reasons why fans have been waiting for the release of this title is the fact that it will change considerably from its predecessor. Although there is a narrative tying the two games together, the new game will have a new main character which means players will need to get used toHollow Knight: Silksong’s gameplay.

Fans are looking forward to the release ofHollow Knight: Silksongfor several reasons. For one, the first game has five different endings and, according to Team Cherry, all of them are canon. This means that the new game will have to find a way toaccommodate everyHollow Knightendingeven though some of them are incompatible. Furthermore,Silksongwill feature many new items such as the tools which will be replacing the charms from the first game.

Goodbye charms, hello tools

InHollow Knight, players got the chance to improve the Knight’s abilities, its nail, and its health by using charms. These small objects could be found all over Hallownest and the player could equip them whenever the Knight rested on a bench. Even though most charms were not necessary to complete the game, they did change the gameplay considerably making them very valuable. Furthermore, some charms like the Kingsoul do havea powerful connection to the narrative ofHollow Knightas this one changes to Voidheart once the Knight visits the Birthplace.

Although charms will be gone in the upcoming game,Hollow Knight: Silksongwill have a similar systemso players can enhance Hornet’s skills. Instead of collecting charms, players will get to craft and equip tools that are primarily made of shell shards. Another interesting thing from the inventory screen is that there appears to be a limited amount of shards that you can collect so players may need to farm this material constantly.

One of themajor differences betweenHollow KnightandSilksongis that the resting system will not only replenish health and silk in the upcoming game. Aside from serving as a saving point, resting will now require the player to spend some shell shards to replenish the tools, meaning that resting will come at a cost every time.

What we know about crafting

The inventory screen that has been spotted in the E3 2019demo ofHollow Knight: Silksonggives off many cluesabout how the crafting system might work. One of the materials that will be used to craft tools will be the shell shards. Unfortunately, Team Cherry has not revealed any tool recipes so far, so it is impossible to know how many shell shards will be needed to create tools.

In addition to the inventory screen, there is a tool one that shows a new feature called “crests.” So far, it seems like one of thenew features ofHollow Knight: Silksongis that Hornet will now have access to at least two types of crests in which she may equip tools from different categories. While the actual mechanism is yet to be revealed, it might be that one crest allows Hornet to equip more tools from one category, and another crest favors a different set of tools.

These arethe new tools fromSilksongthat have been shown so far: a single small nail, a pack of three small nails, a round set of nails that Hornet uses to further propel herself (similar to the ones seen in Hornet’s fight in Kingdom’s Edge), spawning bugs similar that seem to work like the Glowing Womb charm fromHollow Knight, the pimpillo which works like a grenade, a saw that travels in the ground, and a lifeblood syringe.

Hollow Knight: Silksongis currently in development for PC and Switch.
