Now thatThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomhas been out for some time, attention is starting to turn to the prospects of future DLC and how it might take after its predecessor, and it could look to The Champions' Ballad’s iconic boss fight for inspiration. Along with the many changesBreath of the Wildmade to theZeldaformula, its introduction of DLC offered players new shrines, quest lines, and an all-new Divine Beast, all culminating in the Master Cycle Zero as a reward. But among these new additions was what is now considered one ofBreath of the Wild’sbest boss fights.

Building from the standards set byBreath of the Wild’sDLC,The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomwill need to deliver an equal if not better experience compared to The Champions' Ballad which could mean a new dungeon, a new sage, and more specifically a new boss fight. WhileTears of the Kingdomalready has improved its bosses after the criticismBreath of the Wildreceived, it will also need to maintain this momentum when it comes to its DLC. to achieve this, it could take inspiration from The Champions' Ballad subverting player expectations with a battle against an all too familiar face.

Monk Maz Koshia

Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s Monk Maz Koshia Was The Perfect Boss

After completing the fifth Divine Beast hidden below the Great Plateau and nearing the end ofThe Champions' Ballad DLC, players will face one final foe they may never have suspected. Having already encountered dozens of mummified Sheikah monks upon the completion of shrine puzzles and challenges, many players would have likely been so desensitized to the monks' remains that they thought little of them. So when approaching yet another monk and expecting an immediate reward like any other shrine, the plot twist for Maz Koshia’s boss fight was expertly pulled off.

Between a dramatic sky islandsetting that potentially inspiredTears of the Kingdomand a punchy battle theme, Maz Koshia was a memorable boss fight thanks to a challenging and aggressive fighting style that likely preceded the Yiga Clan’s own abilities. This was only heightened by the subversion of its introduction, with players facing an opponent that was the furthest from their expectations. With a high difficulty level and an even more appealing reward, the Maz Koshia boss fight was the perfect end to The Champions' Ballad.

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Rauru Power

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Could Have A Secret Boss in Rauru

WhileTears of the Kingdomcould attempt to parallel theBreath of the WildDLC’s boss fight, this would not only have to overcome the challenge of once more surprising players, but it would also need to find a suitable replacement for Maz Koshia. UnlikeBreath of the Wild’sshrines,Tears of the Kingdom’snew shrines feature statues of Rauru and Sonia instead of Sheikah mummies. However, this could be the potential connection that aprospectiveTears of the KingdomDLCcould use to give players a comparable if not more challenging boss fight with an opponent even more removed from expectations.

Despite serving a key role inTears of the Kingdom’sstory and gameplay, Rauru is given little chance to demonstrate his full fighting prowess beyond a few flashbacks. But what players do see hints towards him having almost god-like power and begs the question as to what he was like during peak combat.Tears of the Kingdom’sDLC could use its shrinesand time travel mechanics to bring Rauru to the future as a secret boss battle, acting as the ultimate test of strength for Link to see if he’s ready to fight Ganondorf, because if Link can beat Rauru, then he could finally defeat The Demon King.
