There are many leaks surrounding the event, but one noteworthy insider has claimed on Twitter thatSonyhas at least one big surprise ready that has yet to be spoiled.
Sony declined to make an appearance at Summer Games Fest or E3 2021, so some fans have concluded that the company is planning something big for its own State of Play event. In previous years, State of Play has served to update fans onHorizon: Forbidden West, revealThe Last Of Us Part 2’s release date, and showcaseGhost of Tsushimagameplay footage.The date of the next Sony State of Play may have leaked, in which case fans can expect to hear from Sony on Thursday, July 8. However, this time has yet to be confirmed by Sony, so gamers may want to take it with a grain of salt.

The leaker who tweeted about Sony keeping a “big surprise” under wraps is reliable industry insider Nick “Shpeshal Nick” Baker, co-founder of XboxEra and co-host of the XboxEra Podcast. In the tweet, he states that he’s not sure how much of Sony’s show will leak, but that he’s sure there’s one big surprise that hasn’t leaked yet. He also says that he hopes it stays unspoiled for the sake of fans. Shpeshal Nick recently leaked an upcoming standalone expansion toGhost of Tsushima, titledGhost of Ikishima, so this sudden anti-spoiler stance is not exactly typical of him.
Some fans have made an attempt to predict what titles could be atSony’s Summer State of Playthis year. Guesses include a secondspotlight onHorizon: Forbidden West, this one potentially including a release date, or other first-party exclusives likeGod of War: Ragnarokor the long-awaitedThe Last Of Usmultiplayer game. Gamers are also anticipating the chance to see more of third-party exclusives likeFinal Fantasy 16or upcoming action RPGForspoken.
