Rumors and leaks regardingGrand Theft Auto 6have been circulating for a while now despite Rockstar Games having yet to officially announce the game. The newest leak, however, claims that players will earn cryptocurrency in-game, which could rule out some of the most popularGrand Theft Auto 6rumors out there.

One of the biggest rumors surrounding the newGrand Theft Autois that it will return the series to the 1980s similar toGrand Theft Auto: Vice City. This rumor has circulated for well over a year now and includes a very popular rumor known as “Project Americas” that statesGrand Theft Auto 6’s map will span multiple cities and even countries.

However, this newest leak comes from the reputable leaker Tom Henderson via their Twitter account. Henderson is well known for leaking news regarding theBattlefieldseries but says this time that they talked to someone familiar with the newGrand Theft Auto. They claim that they have heard that players will earn cryptocurrency similar to Bitcoin throughout the game’s campaign, which will fluctuate in price based on an in-game market similar to the stock market inGrand Theft Auto 5. Of course, this would rule outGrand Theft Auto 6’s supposed 80s settingas Bitcoin didn’t release until 2009.

Of course, this information is still just a leak so there is no way to confirm whether or not it is accurate. IfGrand Theft Auto 6is set in modern timesthe leak does seem likely, as the series has taken plenty of opportunities to comment on real-world events and trends before. However, there have been so many rumors and leaks regarding the game that it is difficult to parse out which ones seem likely or more believable than others. Henderson has been right about many leaks before, however, so it could very well be accurate.

Fans will only know for sure, though, once Rockstar Games officially announcesGrand Theft Auto 6, or whatever it ends up being called. If cryptocurrency does make its way into the nextGrand Theft Autogame it could be a very unique mechanic. It also could be very interesting to see if the mechanic is incorporated in some way intoGrand Theft Auto Online, which has become extremely popular as of late thanks to NoPixel’s roleplaying server. Many fans are hoping to seeGrand Theft Auto 6at this year’s E3 conference, so hopefully, fans will not have too much longer to wait until they get some official information on the game.
