Game Informer,the popular gaming news magazine, has just released some pretty shocking news. Andy McNamara, the Editor-in-Chief of the magazine since 1994, is stepping down from the position in order to pursue other opportunities.McNamara has essentially shaped the magazinesince its inception in 1991, so this came as a shock to many.

McNamara has been a part of theGame Informerteam since the very beginning, initially starting off as a writer and eventually making his way up to the Editor-in-Chief position in the first three years. Now, 29 years since he started working with the magazine, he’s leaving.

McNamara shared his story and a heartfelt goodbye in a letter from the editor in which he elaborates on his time working with the company and says his final goodbyes. The letter is overall very positive and heartfelt, and it seems that McNamara feels as though the magazine is in good hands even with him leaving.

Taking over in his stead is Andrew Reiner, who has also worked at Game Informer for quite some time. McNamara has nothing but praise to heap onto Reiner, even going so far as to say fans will barely notice that he is gone. Regarding his reason for leaving the magazine, McNamara states that it was time for him to move onto something new. He did not disclose what he was going on to do, however, only that he would not be leaving the gaming industry and that his work would no longer be under theGame Informer banner.

McNamara’s legacy is certainly impressive. Over the last 29 years, he has written, led, and inspired gamers and writers alike, producing327 issues of Game Informeralong the way. He shares his thoughts on how he never dreamed that he could make money and have a successful career with his love of video games, a sentiment which is shared by most video game journalists and creators alike, and how thankful he is to both the team at Game Informer and the fans who enabled its success before saying his final goodbyes.

McNamara closes out by reminding readers that he is not dead, just no longer working at Game Informer.
